Halloween Events

halloween.jpg If crowded bars and flashmobs aren't your thing, check out this short list of fun events taking place on Saturday, brought to us by FuncheapSF. FuncheapSF also recommends perusing Haunted Bay for even more Halloween activities.

HAUNTED HOUSES/MAZES/PARTIES

Hay Bale Maze @ North Beach Halloween Extravaganza: Music, food, and lots of fun, jumpy houses, the Bubble Lady, and arts and crafts, in addition to the hay bale maze. 3 to 7 p.m., Friends of Joe DiMaggio Playground, free.

Halloween Haunted House: Not For Wimps
Via N Judah Chronicles: The house at 6th and Irving, formerly known as the Yes We Can House, will feature six Rooms of Terror. For people 10+ only. Free cotton candy and other treats will be provided for kids. 7 to 10 p.m., 6th and Irving, free.

Cyclecide Junkyard Halloween
Cyclecide is mourning the closing of their favorite junkyard, Ace Auto/International Speedway, with a bash at CellSpace. Live music from Extra Action Marching Band, Esmerelda Strange and Hammer Horror Classics, archival Ace film footage. Dr. Hal will MC. Plus DJs, Art, sideshows, free junk, Costume contest for "best likeness of Billy the Junkman, dirtiest hands, and best representation of junk." 8 p.m., CellSpace (2050 Bryant St), $10

GAMES/CONTESTS

Trickster Treat III Choose Your Own Adventure Alleycat
DIY unsanctioned bike obstacle course race, followed by an afterparty. Wear a costume! 2 p.m. at Duboce and Steiner, $5. Benefits the Bike Kitchen.

Journey to the End of the Night Street Game
A free street game across the haunted cityscape of San Francisco, using feet and public transportation only. Best costumes will be awarded, along with best "chasers." 7 p.m., meet at Market Street and Steuart St, free.

TOURS

Guided Tour: Ghosts, Sinners and Secret Places
"Wander streets above hidden tunnels used during prohibition to enter secret speakeasies, learn about hotels with apparitions and hidden rooms, a murder scandal with a legendary Hollywood actor, a notorious stagecoach robber, and ghosts that haunt a theater, a cabaret, the brothels of Maiden Lane and Chinatown." The tour covers approximately 1 mile and ends in Union Square. 6 p.m., meet at the kiosk in Hallidie Plaza at Market and Powell, free.

The Haunted Presidio: Guided Tour
A ranger and docent led tour about the mysteries and unexplained events of the Presidio's 200-year history. Parental guidance suggested. Dress warmly, wear comfortable shoes, and bring a flashlight (optional). Moderate 1-mile walk. 6:30 to 8 p.m. Meet at the corner of Lincoln Blvd. and Funston Ave. Space limited; call Presidio Visitor Center (415-561-4323) for reservations.
