Somewhere, a Central American immigrant parent who thought they were giving their kid a better life for their sacrifices is devastated and in utter disbelief.
A weak personal constitution, being easily swayed and seeing similar carnage/violations growing up inoculates many younger people from the realities of what they are doing.
touche robin. do our over the top sanctuary laws in the city have any language about criminal activity causing you to be turned over to the ins? please tell me so.
Somewhere, a Central American illegal living in Richmond, who already having displayed utter disregard for the laws of this country by sneaking over the border, wonders how their little angel could have done this and really, it couldn't have been him, he's such a good boy. Just like his parents.
And somewhere, elsewhere in the Bay Area, scores of Central American immigrants who have also grown up seeing similar carnage/violations but don't go around gang raping teenage women, wonder who in their right mind would have the audacity to even consider holding up their immigrant background as an explanation/quasi-apologia for the actions of a bunch of pack animals who only deserve castration at this point.
Sometimes the SF left makes me sick to my stomach.
Maybe I missed something. Where have you seen the "explanation/quasi-apologia" to which you refer? I've seen nothing but (richly deserved) condemnation.
THis statement:
"A weak personal constitution, being easily swayed and seeing similar carnage/violations growing up inoculates many younger people from the realities of what they are doing."
The whole "incoulates many young people..." crap is typical lefty back-handed apologia where its not the fault of the individual, its the fault of their environment. Who cares if these pigs did or did not come from a society where violence was more prevalent. They are still pigs - and that's really all that matters.
I think RobinSF will be amused about being lumped in with "the SF left."
I'm not sure what Central America or immigrants have to do with this gang rape case. Oh wait, I do: nothing. It has nothing to do with it. It has as much to do with the Richmond HS case as it does the instance in the '90s where six lily-white, wealthy football players at my high school beat and gang raped a fellow student at a local beach.
I'm not convinced that being lily-white and wealthy had anything to do with it, either.
People who are anti-immigration forget that they or their forebears all came from some other country, unless they are 100% Native Americans. Some came legally, some not. Bigots conflate criminal activity with immigration status.
Obviously, that had zero to do with it. That was my point.
yeah. ridiculous. these people read too much SFGATE comment boards.
When it comes time to sentence these subhumans, let's keep in mind the example of local child rapist Phillip Garrido, and what can happen when you let one of these monsters out on parole. None of these men deserve to see another playground for a good 30 years.
1. I'm glad that they are getting these bastards. When they picked up the 15 year old, I thought that the rest wouldn't be far behind. Pretty easy to turn the screws on a 15 year old.
2. I'm not surprised that it's the same commenters on this blog again and again try to take situations like these and turn them into a defense of their prejudices against colors or cultures. What we should be attacking in these situations is ignorance. Ignorance from lack of schooling. Ignorance of right and wrong from bad parenting and poor role models. Ignorance of how to act in a society because that same society no longer has the balls or the will to stand up to them when we see them doing wrong.
I don't know what to do to fix this. I wish I did. But I do know that blaming it on where someone is from is not a solution to anything. I told my son about this last night and he said, "I wish that you hadn't told me that because now all I can think about is how I want to be able to go back and save that poor girl." I told him all you can do is affect everyone you know to save the next girl.
