After being beaten and allegedly raped by several men on the Richmond High School grounds after a homecoming dance, a 15-year-old girl remains hospitalized this morning. The incident happened on Saturday night. According to reports:
Officers responded to Richmond High School at 1250 23rd St. just before midnight, about an hour after the dance ended, and saw several males running away, Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French said.The officers then found the victim unconscious and suffering from "different injuries indicating she had been assaulted," French said.
It seems the victim left the dance, which is when the assault began, in an alley on the school grounds. According to KRON 4, the attacked lasted at least an hour with passersby joining in the attack or watching as it happened. So far, only one 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack. Police are looking for "at least a dozen" men, boys, students, and non-students who aided in the attack
KTVU says that the attack was videotaped with cellphones.
“'At one point there were four individuals who were physically assaulting our victim - she was raped, she had been robbed. We are working backwards to identified the other individuals,'" Lt. Mark Gagan said. "'Throughout the incident, several people walked by, heard a commotion, came over and saw what was going on and either observed or left, but did not report what was going on. To me, that is the most disturbing part of this.'"
SFist left a message with Richmond High School Principal Julio Franco for comment and answers about his school's security, or lack thereof. We have yet to hear back from him.

The death penalty isn't offered in the state in cases of rape. Pro or con, it wouldn't apply in this instance.

Why does opposing the death penalty make someone a "fucktard?" The death penalty would never be applied in this case. Futhermore, the death penalty is not much of a deterrant if we have highest murder rate than any other industrialised country in the world, and we are the only ones with the death penalty.

Even if it were me, I would not want the state to kill the men who attacked me. I would also like to remind you, or maybe teach you, that those of us who have survived sexual assault can recover and lead happy lives.

How many 15 yrs old girls you know hangout with a bunch of 19 yrs old guys drinking hard liquor? She was supposed to wait for her father at 9:30pm for a ride home. Instead she walked away to a secluded area with very low lighting with that 19 yrs old guy. I'm sorry this happened to her, but she could have avoided with some common sense.
I hope RPD catches all those guys that did this to her and catches anyone who was watching and didn't do anything. Throw them all in jail and let them get held down and rape by other inmates. Because WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND. See how they like it getting gang rape in jail involuntary.
world peace, i would take that as a teenager u never used bad judgement?? the girl is 15 and her mistake in thinking that she could just "hang" with the fellas is not an invitation to her abuse. she like many teens did something she wasnt supposed to do and in doing so, to say that in some way she brought it upon herself but the guys should be prosecuted is absurd. as a teen (way back when) i preferred hanging the the boys over the girls, drank and got high with them. there's nothing wrong with hanging with the fellas there's definitely something wrong when the fellas think that because u do so that means ur there for a ride.
here's my proposed solution to the epidemic of rape in this country: 1.) screw the death penalty, why let them off that easy; 2) no chemical castration, it implies that otherwise ur a functional human being when in fact ur not and so long as ur mind is twisted and there are other body parts as well as external devices sexual assault is still possible. 3.) the hell with life without parole, why should i have to pay for u to live the rest of ur life with 3 hots, a cot, free cable/utilities, and a rec room? 4.) THE SOLUTION: the government should exile all non-rehabilitative violent criminals to a secluded island, teach them to live off the land and leave their asses there to fend for themselves for all eternity. let them make it or break it on their own and prey off each other!!
Oh, maybe I should have replied to this comment instead. I would suggest that it is more important that we as a society understand rape more realistically, not take it more "seriously" by which I think you mean kill people convincted of sexual assault. Have I got that right?
Also, the idea that you would rather a victim be killed than go through recovery speak volumes about how you think about women and rape.

I do not want the death penalty extended to anyone. I still think it's wrong to allow the state to kill anybody, and I'm a victim whose crime you want the perpetrator of killed.

i apologize for being so dramatic earlier too. i was over reacting to a very disturbing story and am sorry. i would want to be killed before being gang raped by a bunch of men. i would take as many of them with me first of course. but it was wrong to presume that anyone else would feel that way.

Because I am an absolute opponent of the death penalty, I would say that no parole for Phil Garrido would also have prevented him from kidnapping Ms. Dugard.

i can figure that u must be male for expressing these views. i can feel that ur heart is in the right place but ur opinion is quiet wrong for a good percentage of women. yes, for some women if they cant process the attack, death may be better for them than to live with the memories. but i have a cousin who was 15 when she beaten, nearly to death, by her rapist and the only reason she lived was because when he went to retrieve a weapon she was able to hide long enough for his sister to come home and discover what was happening. she now holds a master's degree, is married with 2 children, and functions quiet well. maybe it would help u to understand this process if u volunteered at a woman's shelter.

Do you really think it is a deterrent? We've made any number of criminal penalties tougher over the years and we have far more people in prison per capita and in raw numbers then ever before.

Personally, I believe in hell on earth is more damaging than putting someone to sleep via injection. I wish the death penalty was a deterrent, but that doesn't seem to be the case. In fact, I think more murders occur from fear of the death penalty than deterring the actual crime. Rape has been around since the beginning of time. Men have proven to be brutal narcissistic sociopathic animals time after time and nothing seems to prevent it. Yes, I agree that they all should be permanently castrated. Inject them all with female hormones as well.

By doing this you accomplish a few things that are good for society:

2. It will quiet the demons and lower the testosterone all at the same time.
3. Assholes who do this sort of thing can't have kids - and shouldn't.
4. You allow the victim to watch the procedure and take the nuts home in a little box. That would give them something back and help them heal. If not just a little.
I think that the potential of getting caught and having your nuggets removed might stop the lesser minded from carrying through with their evil plans. Right now, the risk/reward is in favor of the rapist. Change the playing field.
The only problem is that you could never convince most of the bleeding hearts on the left to pass such a law. Because, after all, rapists and murderers have had a rough life and just need a big hug and a little bit of rehab and then they'll be all good.

Yes I'm one of those bleeding hearts on the left. I don't, however, think "a big hug and a little rehab" is the solution to everything. Ultimately we need to treat behavior like this as a medical condition -- i.e. instead of perpetuating the problem by meeting violence with violence, we meet violence with medicine.
And yes, some people have bad hormonal imbalances that result in unacceptably aggressive and violent behavior. Chemical castration is exactly the sort of solution needed here.

I'm saying this as a victim -- and rather than being filled with anger over it, I realized that the only way past it was to forgive the people who victimized me. The key word being "forgive", not "excuse".
I've read about too many cases where the convicted rapist decided to stop going for the treatments, slipped under the radar and resumed raping and molesting.
I don't have any hate and I certainly didn't suggest it out of anger. To me, it is a logical solution to an ongoing social problem which, unless I'm mistaken, seems to be getting worse. It's a simple surgical procedure that permanently eliminates the drive and most of the ability.
Leaving it up to the good will and trust of someone who has already shown a lack of respect for basic human rights is probably not the way to solve this problem. But like every other post on here, that's just one persons opinion.
I don't see anything in your plan that alters the normal rule that a person can be convicted based on the testimony of a single witness, without any scientific evidence. So how many innocent men getting castrated are you cool with? What if you were falsely accused and convicted? You OK with getting castrated too?
If you think innocent people aren't convicted based on witness testimony alone, you're kidding yourself. And don't tell me about "appeals" - the affirmance rate in California is well over 90%, maybe even higher.
