At 5 pm today, SF Mayor Gavin Newsom will take a tour of the charm-free middling area of Marker Street. You know, the area between Sixth and Eights Streets where you were mugged. Twice. Yes, that one.
According to SF Appeal, Newsom will "tour new Market Street improvements and launch a new arts and economic development initiative." At the very least, this will prove for an interesting photo opportunity; at the most, something arty will go down in San Francisco's most, er, exciting neighborhood.
The jaunt starts at 1231 Market Street (at Eighth Street), continuing on to 989 Market Street (at Sixth). Join him, won't you? Appeal has more details.

Oh man, I really hope a half naked crack head makes it into one of the official photo ops.. kind of like when you take a photo at a bar w. your friends and when you look at it the next day there's some dude making filthy gestures right behind your heads....
Time to get all liquored up and borrow a bullhorn!
let's have a happy hour at Showdogs!
What a sad state of affairs when it's 'Newsworthy' that the Mayor will walk down the street.
Unveiling the first part of "Art In Storefronts":

I like the giant ghosts made of crumpled paper.

It's been pretty sweet watching art in storefronts unfold. Those giant ghosts especially. It started out with one guy at a desk crumpling paper, looking like a very dejected writer. There was a mambo band out tonight. The random people stopping by to dance outnumbered the folks waiting in line at the Warfield. Truly an awesome sight to behold.
Love Showdogs; Prop D not so much. If someone (business owners, whomever) could convince some more artists, musicians, and the like to come down to this neck of the woods on a Friday night, the neighborhood would benefit so much. Billboards... ugh.
Uh oh, I think I just saw someone in that article refer to the TL as "North of Market."
Can "NOMA" and HOA dues for rat infested studios be far behind?
I'm pretty sure I have seen the guy on the street more then Newsom in the city.
My office is at 989 Market Street where the reception is being held. I'm glad for some positive attention in an otherwise truly sad and dreary part of the city.
