Photos: OMGStormWatch2K9 -- Tree Almost Crushes Cyclist

This dastardly tree, at Haight and Broderick, came tumbling down, nearly crushing this cute cyclist.

"Cyclist 'Daniel' excited that he's not dead. Bummed that the tree ate the front wheel of his bike," reports expuestosiempre, who also snapped several shot of the tree, as well as a lamppost, that came crashing down early this morning.

a tree fell at 17th and Guerrero - fortunately no overhead Muni lines were disrupted...

The Haight St. buses won't be so lucky.

cry moar...oh...wait..

nevermind, rain always confuses me.

nothing to see here!

I hope young Daniel wasn't riding that bike when the tree came down on him. If he was, then I'm guessing the tree was sacrificing itself in an attempt to eliminate from the gene pool someone who would willingly bike on the worst storm day of the year so far.

Yeah, he was. I was walking up the sidewalk next to the tree. He was riding up Haight. Fell on him instead of me. Pretty remarkable that he wasn't crushed.

The guy whose truck caught the trunk is still staring at it from across the street. Bummer.

I think that might be my old landlord's car... Hope not, he was a nice guy.

Is your landlord in his mid 20s? If not, I think his car is safe.

No, I guess it's not his. Too bad for the guy in his mid-20's though.

"the tree was sacrificing itself in an attempt to eliminate from the gene pool someone who would willingly bike on the worst storm day of the year so far."

The gene pool has little need for the limp of wrist and thin of skin who don't ride on rainy days. If fire pours from the sky I WILL RIDE!

Today was a great and exciting day to ride. Not for sissies, though.

Good thing that car was there. Probably saved his life.

Excellent point! Cars aren't that bad after all!

in other storm-ly news, the glass door in my office (we're on the 4th floor in the FiDi) just shattered because of the wind! cubicle commotion ensued, followed by two guys in yellow jackets on walkie talkies walking up the hall saying things like 'unit 1-8'... go storm!

The trees are out to get us. I hope the redwoods don't get into the act or we're pretty much fucked.

Anyone who rides regardless of the weather is a friend of mine. Does anyone know Daniel? I'd like to start a fund to get him a new rim.

I'll help him out with a rim job.

what should one expect to pay for a new rim job?

The trees on Fell St. are probably all thinking, "it's just too cliche".

Said one tree to the next one, "He's riding a fixie! Get him!"

The Little Baby Jesus who makes trees fall only hates fixies with **no brakes**. Daniel seems to have one, so he was spared.

One, I hope that the so-bad-it's-good TV show "Trauma" will somehow incorporate this storm.

Two, if this was "Trauma," that charming rogue Rabbit would have put ice water in this dude's veins to stop the knuckle-bleeding, or, that blond chick would have gotten all bosomy and Florence Nightingale over the bicyclist.

Three, I had mixed feelings about them using the 101 California office shootings as basis for last night's show. In poor taste, but Rabbit did earn his just reward at the bar...

Four, to ride a fixie in the rain, with bike shoes, is pretty badass. Could be wrong, but this dude looked like he knew what he was doing, ie, a competent (and presumably safe, note helmet) fixie rider, which I have no problems with.

damn! one less fixie rider would have made my day.

What eo36 said.

I have a spare Ksyrium wheel that I will donate to this guy if anyone can find him.

Find Dan, get him a new wheel

Fuck. This is literally at my house.
