Schwarzenegger Makes 'Harvey Milk Day' Official

On Sunday night, Gov. Schwarzenegger (finally!) signed Sen. Mark Leno's Harvey Milk bill, one that would create Harvey Milk Day. "He really saw this signing as a way to honor the gay community in California," spokesman Aaron McLear told CNN in an interview. Milk's "day of significance," however, would not close schools or state offices; but will, presumably, fill bars and clubs in the Castro next year. Harvey Milk Day will be officially celebrated on May 22, Milk's birthday.

That said, how will you spend the first-ever Harvey Milk Day come 2010?

He also -- and more importantly, in my opinion -- signed a bill that would recognize out-of-state same-sex unions. Ya can't get married here, but if you get married elsewhere it will count here. 52% of California voters are stupid.

so a couple can go to reno/vegas for the weekend and get hitched and have it count here. awesome workaround!

No, because same sex marriage is not yet legal in Nevada. However, if you go to a state where it IS legal you can do this.

Of course there will be a court challenge which will pit Prop 8 against the Full Faith and Credit clause of the US Constitution.

And this is WAY more important than yet another Harvey Milk memorial.

Only same-sex, out-of-state marriages performed while same-sex marriage was legal in California, May through October, 2008, will be recognized as marriages in California by virtue of today's approved legislation. Same-sex marriages performed outside this window of time will be recognized as domestic partnerships.

Does this mean Tom Cruise can finally come out of the closet?

Hey Tom, Don't you have a dumbass comment to make?

Break down the wall.

A shame nothing is going to be closed. If you don't get the day off it's not a real holiday.
