Alas, one of the few remaining signs of San Francisco's glory days of capitalism has turned dark. The Schwab sign at Montgomery, you see, has been turned off.

SFist reader Alexandria, who snapped the shot at left, tells us. "I knew Charles Schwab was moving (had moved), but I wasn't prepared for this. Their electronic sign on Montgomery Street is dark! How will I ever know what time it is again? Or what the temperature is outside? Or when the NASDAQ is up or down? My world will never be same."

We hear you, Alexandria. The Schwab sign was a warm, comforting glow nestled in the Financial District, one that said, "Hey, you're poor. Also, your lunch hour is over." But, like, in a really nice way.

OK, truth is we don't know when, exactly, the sign went off for good. Could've been ages ago. Irrespective, we'll miss it as we do the stock exchange and that funky E-trade building.
