The annual week-long Litquake festival starts tonight, featuring a daunting line-up of events. Below is a list of our picks featuring one event per day (otherwise this post would take us all weekend). Check out SF Weekly, SF Appeal, and Mercury News for their highlights.

Black, White, and Read: Litquake’s Book Ball "Recession elegance, literary hijinks and smarty-pants schmooze." Be Afraid! Evil Queens, Menacing Dykes, and Secret Gay Agendas Authors will discuss America's lingering fears of the "gay menace." 8 p.m., Joe’s Barbershop, 2150 Market St, (415) 255-9096, $5.

Literary North Beach Walking Tour Get acquainted with the lesser known literary figures of the Beat era, such as Rexroth and Watts, on a 60-90 minute tour through North Beach. 5 p.m., starts at the Beat Museum, 540 Broadway, free.
Monday
Journey to the End of the Bay: Punk Rockers Spill Their Guts Litquake and Porchlight Storytelling celebrate the launch of the new book, Gimme Something Better: The Profound, Progressive, and Occasionally Pointless History of Bay Area Punk from Dead Kennedys to Green Day, a collection of true tales of punk-rock anarchy and excess by Jack Boulware and Silke Tudor. Dreaming Awake: How James Joyce Invented Experimental Cinema and Disguised It as a Book SF Cinemateque presents paramedia-ecologist Gerry Fialka’s interactive workshop that probes how Joyce’s 1939 meta-narrative book/epic collage Finnegans Wake (and Marshall McLuhan’s Menippean satirized translation) presaged experimental and political activist cinema. 7:30 p.m., Delancey Street Screening Room (600 Embarcadero St), (415) 957-9800, $10-$15.
Wednesday
Litquake’s Barbary Coast Award: An Evening Honoring Amy Tan Who knew -- Amy Tan is in an all-author band called Rock Bottom Remainders? Tan will be celebrated in an entertaining tribute-roast. Thursday
Literary Death Match Actress/poet Amber Tamblyn, artist extraordinaire Paul Madonna and SF Chronicle cultural scribe David Wiegand will pass judgment on literary participants. Verdi Club (2424 Mariposa St), (415) 861-9199, $15, 21+.
Friday
Mouthy Dames! It's the annual women's night, featuring mouthy dames who can't keep their feelings/opinions to themselves. 6 to 8 p.m., Hotel Monaco (501 Geary), (415) 292-0100, $5-$10 donation at the door.
Saturday
Litquake will end with a bang, featuring a Lit Crawl in 3 phases. Phase 1: 6 to 7 p.m., Phase 2: 7:15 to 8:15 p.m., and Phase 3: 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
We are biased in terms of this pick. SFist's Brock Keeling and SF Appeal's Eve Batey will be producing and emceeing Collisions on the Information Superhighway, in which some of the city's most entertaining online writers will take the stage. 5 p.m., The LAB (2948 16th St), free.

Yes, but is there a direct link to a Litquake round-up on sfbg.com? I have yet to find one, and to be honest, I find the site very hard to navigate in general. The fact that there is no search function drives me batty as well.
