Builder of Oakland's Fox Theater Once Imprisoned For 'White Slavery'
In the span of 75 minutes, three people were killed in Oakland on Thursday morning, allegedly in the heat of domestic violence blowups.
At around 5:15 a.m., according to KTVU, a security guard "said he was patrolling the neighborhood near the 4500 block of Penniman Ave. around 5:15 a.m. when a man walked and said he had shot his wife." Private security officer Len Montalvo told KTVU, "I came around the corner and a fella just put up his hands .. I asked him ‘What’s going on?’ He said: ‘I just killed my wife.’ He had blood all over him.”
Then, according to CBS 5/BCN, "at 6:31 a.m., police received a report of a shooting in the 8300 block of International Boulevard. They arrived to find two people dead, a male and a female." The former dead of a gunshot wound, the latter with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
Remember, if your partner beats the crap out of you (or just smacks you around a bit on the occasional game-day loss), he or she will probably kill you. Well, maybe; we're basing our research off of Lifetime movies. Anyway, contrary to the Dr. Phil-ization of the world, it almost always gets worse, even if you consider yourself a well-educated, smart, white liberal. Domestic violence bleeds into every social and economic crevice. Saying that "he or she will probably kill you" seems to discount the amount of domestic violence that occurs.
It isn't remotely true that "he or she will probably kill you." If it were, there would be at least hundreds of thousands of domestic violence murders every year. He or she will probably keep using violence against you and is more likely to kill you.
Schwarzenegger and the Republican state senators are bad news. It is the government's duty to protect citizens and to ensure their well-being. Schwarzenegger and the Republican state senators are not doing this. The funding priority for battered women shelters (BWS) should be the same as for prisons, because human life is at risk. Prisons keep the criminals and the murderers in, and BWS's keep the good people in, and the criminals and the murderers out. The Governor's illegal budget cuts, with backing of big oil (Chevron Corp. of San Ramon), are very dangerous for women and children, who are victims of domestic violence, and it is sub-human. During a recession, with its higher unemployment, government funding for BWS's should be increased, not eliminated. Obviously, this budget picks-on the most vulnerable, and it endangers children. If a battered wife is murdered in front of a closed-down BWS, then, Schwarzenegger, his oil industry tyrants and the Republican state senators should be charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment.
The writeup says "more likely to kill you," not, "more likely to tax you." Might want to rethink your rant in light of this subtlety.
