Christmas Comes Early to SF

While friend of SFist Eye On Blog's Britteny Gilbert is none too thrilled to see these LED snowflakes -- presumably meant to signify winter, which signifies the holiday season, which, come now, signifies the sheer delight that is Christmas -- we couldn't be more thrilled. Why? Because Christmastime is RAD. Whatever, it totally is. We look forward to it, while silently disagreeing with you Jesus haters who complain that it arrives too early each year. (Impossible!) See, the Glory of Christmas involves gift receiving, winter's chill, family fights, asking if you hear what we hear, binge drinking, chocolate mint-laced everything, layered clothing, and the bittersweet melancholy that comes with knowing that you're going to spend, yet again, another holiday season alone.

Anyway, the LED snowflake lights, which you can read all about via the great Leah Garchik, have been turned on early this year for some reason. While we applaud this decision, hopefully it doesn't mean the Market Street Association has turned into a bunch of nerkles.

Who's up for some carolling this weekend? Maybe right after Folsom St.?

I love xmas, at least the non-secular stuff, and especially chocolate-mint laced everythings. Does seem a tad bid early though. I thought maybe they were props for the filming of a Trauma! episode.

Seriously. Not 'til after Leather Week!

I adore Christmas too. ADORE it. That said, I was appalled when I saw the lights turned on last Friday. One holiday at a time, people!

(And yeah, LoveSF, I was hoping it was for a "Trauma" filming as well!)

I'm fatherchristmas, and I approve this Jolly Folsom Street Christmas.

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Tuesday was the first day of autumn. Summer is dead. Get over it.

Yes, Autumn just started. So, um, let's hang up the snowflakes?

I'm willing to accept pretty LED snowflake decorations in San Francisco in December (because hey, it does dust the hills once ever five years) But in September? No! Why are we being denied our right to enjoy LED pumpkins in October followed by LED turkeys in November, and then, only then, they can roll out the LED snowflakes!

though i personally love san francisco during the holiday season - it's so pretty downtown with all the lights and chilly weather - i must ask, is it only september, right?
