A fatal car collision happened at Fell and Broderick this morning at around 6:30 a.m.
According to SFAppeal/BCN, one person has been confirmed dead.
Be careful out there on the roads, folks.
Update: SFGate has more on this morning's crash. The victim was a woman crossing Fell. The driver was a 19-year-old. Both have yet to be identified.
Update II: The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Melissa Dennison.

looks like a driver hit a pedestrian. still no details as to who was at fault. here's a link with more:

With the "where'm I goin'?" drivers trying to figure out where the Haight is, the line-up out of the cheap-gas station on the corner of Divis, and the DMV drivetards trying not to get pulled over a block away from getting their license unsuspended, and the cyclists (god love 'em) gumming up the works on the left side, the few blocks of Fell west of Divis are a speed zone. That makes it a baaaad place to jaywalk. Just sayin'.
yeah those few blocks are sketch as hell. this is coming from someone who is a cyclist, driver and pedestrian in that area all the time.
also, can something be done about that damn gas station? those drivers are the worst.
Perhaps the neighbors needs to start calling the police every time the line block bike or car traffic (i.e. always).
It probably doesn't help that the hill there is just begging drivers to be going 60 by the time they hit Divisadero.
A cop stationed there during every evening rush hour could pay for himself easily by writing tickets for blocking the street (and the occasional red light running, and YES that includes bikes). It's a really hazardous location.
Was riding to work (westbound) in the bike lane on Fell Street at about 6:40 this morning. I came upon the accident scene but avoided paying attention to it because I was more concerned with the idiotic automobile drivers trying to pass around the line of cars by cutting up through the bike lane. Maneuvering around these jerks along with the cars that pull into the two service stations at Fell and Divis made for a stressful bike ride. Note to automobile drivers, please do not block the bike lane, and especially, please do not weave in and out of the bike lane.
Might this be why there was a helicoptor booming outside my window, all Blue Thunder style, this a.m.?
Please post any details if you have them about the accident. I have a friend who lives at Fell/Broderick and leaves to walk to work around that time. It's a bit to close to home.
Per SFGATE it was a 24 year old woman.

My friend just turned 24, is a pre-school teacher at a local school in the neighborhood. I haven't been able to reach her all morning and am becoming increasingly worried.
Just finally heard back from her.
I'm glad it's not your friend. This happened two blocks from my house and as I am a dog owner and walk all over the area, figuring I probably know her, at least by sight.
Sorry for the scare, Skyhoper - life is precious, let us all revel!
I went by at about 7am. The cops had blocked off the accident scene and the medical examiner and some ambulances were there. Scary.
It's amazing licenses are given to teenagers at all. If you can't be trusted to drink a beer, how can you be trusted to pilot a machine that can inflict bodily harm and death on those around you?? Sheesh.
Well, I don't know. I've seen older drivers who are just as irresponsible.
That explains the circling helicopter.

sf sppeal put more details up. like the fact that a car was slowing down for her to cross and the 19 year old whipped around and hit her. and she flew a 'significant distance'
:(
so depressing/awful
The victim has now been identified: Melissa Dennison
Googling her name shows that she's went through a few extremes in life, some good (snowboarding champion) and some bad (a couple drunk driving arrests last year).
What a tragedy to lose a life this way.
Christ, the news reports say she blew a .346 and .380 on her DUI's. That's insanely loaded.
One thing to note is that there may be more than one Melissa Dennison coming up in that search.
Although, according to this article, the age is right: http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:i9hl_cQ_WPkJ:www.groundreport.com/Lifestyle/Melissa-Dennison-Nabs-2nd-DUI-in-Same-Spot-4-Month+%22Melissa+Dennison%22&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us
i would hope that this horrible accident serves as a wake up call to us all.
people who text and jaywalk, talk on their cell and jaywalk, etc or just think any driver will see you in time and stop even though you do not have a light or right to walk there could kill you.
we all know plenty of bad drivers but this really sounds like she used bad judgement and paid the ultimate price.
as for the driver, he is a victim too, having to live with the fact that he killed someone that just didn't want to walk across the street in a crosswalk when it was her turn.
who would you rather be in this situation?
"we all know plenty of bad drivers but this really sounds like she used bad judgement and paid the ultimate price."
Where is the evidence for your statement? A lot of people have past DUI issues. That doesn't mean they should get run down in cold blood by a speeding driver when they're out getting a coffee. I live one block from where this happened. The design of Fell and Oak streets encourages this kind of bad behavior from drivers.
I'm sorry the driver will have to live with this for the rest of his life. But maybe he will drive more carefully now knowing what can happen. Maybe he can be an influence on his friends.
