Today's guest blogger? Brace yourselves. It's zombie of zombietime. For those of you uninitiated with this local, highly entertaining, not-left-learning blog, zombie features some of the greatest shots of protesters and locals acting like the Bay Area stereotypes that they are.
Oh, and for the record, SFist is a big Violet Blue fan.
Take it away, zombie.
- Vanilla-phobic SFGate plumbing columnist Violet Blue displayed exquisitely bad timing with her recent column defending registered sex offenders -- shortly before two high profile cases grabbed the headlines: First, a serial rapist was released in East Palo Alto to howls of outrage by local residents; Second, a long-time registered sex offender was discovered to have imprisoned a young girl as his sex slave for 18 years on his property in Antioch -- while neighbors remained unaware of his history.

Speaking of which, The Claycord blog has been smoking the competition in the Jaycee Dugard case; not only did a lowly blogger scoop all major news outlets in breaking the story, but it's continued to have the best coverage, proving once again that Claycord.com is a prototype for how great blogs can be.
-
And as if on cue: According to Media Bistro, the San Francisco Chronicle is already starting to fire the first of its 300 mandated new layoffs this week -- as the paper continues to hemorrhage $1 million a week, further accelerating the collapse of the traditional newspaper industry.
-
For your daily dose of spooky science, U.C. Berkeley PhD Beverly Rubik (no relation to the cube) tonight lectures on her attempts to measure the soul using neurofeedback electrodes on the heads of expert meditators.
-
The "Marooned in Marin" blog has a new scathing exposé about Oakland's own Van Jones (now elevated by Obama to be the nation's "Green Jobs Czar"), pointing out his radical (and we do mean radical) past Bay Area activism.
-
Local San Francisco Bush-era protesters once again became part of the national discussion this month as zomblog's recap of threats against Bush at protests and Bush=Hitler comparisons reversed the media's narrative about the menacing town hall protests.
-
Another example of a local specialized blog outshining traditional media, BART Rage keeps daily tabs on BART goings on -- from which stations to avoid because of police activity to the politics of union negotiations.
-
FLOAT, "The San Francisco Bay Area's Only Floatation Center/Art Gallery" has an intriguing exhibit of "Brilliant playful creatures, and junk yard kinetic art" now ongoing in their unique Oakland space.

Hold on, let me get my popcorn...
yes, this should be EXCELLENT. and much thanks, zombie.

This is clearly not the guest-editing of Phil Bronstein.
Who's next, Michael Savage? He'd fit right in with the reactionary, prudish, right-wing Zionism of your current host. And you might want to keep tabs on your own virulent racism in every one of the Oscar Grant posts you've been publishing since day one. It's getting really creepy.
We are shocked, outraged and offended at SFist's racist, sexist, homophobic & bigoted choice of Guest Bloggers and unconditionally demand the balanced & nuanced IndyBay be represented next.
Yes, Brock, you've offended a reader, so please be sure to have a child molester as a guest blogger soon so sfmike will be happy.
careful. your fetishism is showing. *wink*
Care to expand on that SFMike?
I just looked at a few old OG posts here and I didn't see any kind of racism, much less "virulent" racism in "every one."
Maybe you're exaggerating a bit?
Is there anything you disagree with that isn't "creepy"?
I'm a big fan of zombietime, but the "look at how great blogs are" routine is getting really tired. If you're cool, you don't need to say so. And if you have to keep insisting on how much better blogs are than the "mainstream," "major" news outlets, you just make it apparent that they're actually not.
That is an overstatement.
Ummm. So I read the "Marooned in Marin" blog article, and I have to say that the author is totally miscontextualizing Van Jones. You can be angry at US policy toward the rest of the world on 9/11 and neither be a communist nor a terrorist sympathizer. Afterall, terrorists would not have bombed us if we hadn't bombed them first. In fact, terrorists largely would not exist if we had not done something to upset their lives. Recognizing the bigger picture and also being fearful that people might vent their anger on Arabs were important concerns. What was worse during the period following 9/11 were the killings of Sikhs or people thought to be Arabs in the US. It certainly also bears mentioning that there was a lot of uncertainty over who was responsible for the attacks until up to a week after the attacks. So the fact that Van Jones was cautioning people not to jump to conclusions that Arabs were responsible is not unreasonable. And it definitely is not pro-terrorist, anti-american, pro-communist. Whatever chain of evil things you can piece together.
Mmmmm, If you're apologizing for Van Jones who on 9/11 was apologizing for the 9/11 terrorists who murdered 3000 people, you've got something very wrong with you.
dude. there is a huge difference between apologizing for terrorists and explaining the chain of events (i.e. the root cause) of why it happened.
I'm all for making fun of crazy street-protesters of all political stripes but I don't really understand this post. It just seems like a series of links without substantive (even for SFist) commentary. Shouldn't a guest blogger... I dunno... blog about something?
I'll give it a go:
I think that zombie either didn't read or didn't care to understand Violet Blue's (who I'm not a big fan of BTW) column. Here screed was all about why lumping violent sex criminals together with non-violent ones might be poor public policy. Seems like Mr. Zombie, by doing exactly what she warns against, is sorta proving her point.
I dunno..I tried with the Violet Blue thing.. but it's hard to get worked-up and indignant about a guest blogger if there's no content to get worked-up and indignant about...
I just noticed that this is a 'day around the bay' post. Hopefully zombie will come at us with something more substantive later...
Has anyone actually tried to have vanilla sex with Violet Blue? She might not be as vanilla-phobic as we presume.
