Yesterday, a woman walked into the Concord Police Department claiming to be Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was kidnapped in 1991 in Lake Tahoe. Dugard, now 29, "was last seen on June 10, 1991 as she was walking to a bus stop in South Lake Tahoe." As her mother Carl Probyn "looked on from the family’s driveway two blocks away, a gray sedan pulled up and someone yanked Jaycee into the car and sped off." Two people have since been arrested in connection with her dissappearence. According to the Chronicle Probyn, 60, said, "I gave up hope for 18 years, just went into recovery mode. I thought it would be nice just to recover her and capture the people and find out why they did this," said Probyn. "Now, I just won the lotto. It's just unbelievable. This is going to be a great day today." Probyn is en route from Orange County Riverside to reunite with her daughter.

Riverside is NOT Orange County!! [SoCal native grumble]

Oops.

Also, how sad to reunite with your mother only to learn she lives in Riverside? Bittersweet, indeed.

well, it looks like she wasted no time handing out the info. Cool!

I can't wait for the details on this story to come out. So many questions... Was she kept by these people against her will even after she turned 18? Concord isn't that far from Tahoe... how did no one notice or recognize her all these years? Etc.

"how did no one notice or recognize her all these years?"

People DID notice. One of them even called the cops TWO YEARS ago and nothing happened.

The only reason this guy got caught is because he wanted to get caught. If this were China this guy would have been dead in 1971.

"Concord isn't that far from Tahoe..."

assuming this is tongue in cheek...?

if "[Concord] located 15 miles east of Oakland in Contra Costa County [East Bay]" means near Tahoe...then yes, you are right, Concord is right near Tahoe.

I didn't say Concord is "right near" Tahoe. Don't misquote me. Douche.

The two areas are about 170 miles apart. That is not far. Considering the widespread media coverage this got in 1991, the fact that her face was on posters all over California and Nevada, it's amazing that her kidnappers kept her in the area.

douche!

see this makes sense...context!

"Concord isn't that far from Tahoe"

not so much...

No, it was pretty clear what he meant the first time.

It will be interesting to see if the age progression technology did a good job guessing her appearance.

It floors me that the only reason that this guy got caught was that we walked into a police station with the girl he kidnapped 18 years ago.

And this was after neighbors had called the cops 2 years ago to report that a registered sex offender with a violent past had a tent village of young girls in his back yard.

And nothing happened.

Jesus Christ...
