Today's guest blogger taking charge of Day Around the Bay? Beth Spotswood. She writes for SFGate and SFAppeal. Also, she has a site of her very own, which is a must-read. Of course.

Take it away, Beth.

Regarding the survival tips, I'm always prepared to stop talking when walking with a companion, especially at night. If I see someone sketchy, I want to stop talking and be more alert to what is going on. My partner tends to talk a lot when we walk home, and sometimes I just have to say "hold that thought" until I'm comfortable with our surroundings. I know we are less at risk being together, but we are always at risk of a gay bashing, unfortunately.

Ew, this guy. No me gusta. I moved away from SF and miss it dearly and the one redeeming fact is that I don't have to see that nasty dude in the tenderloin who spanges (verb; to ask every single passerby for spare change) constantly.
Then some f-ing hipster blog editor has to post his freaking mug. F that. So not cool.

yeah Maxwell? did you ever take the chance to talk to Oscar, or even say "hello?" or were you too much in a hurry to get to where you were going to?

he's got a speech impediment, mental illness, and a strong Jamaican accent -- yet was perfectly pleasant to talk to. ive seen him once since then and it was nice to say "hello" as i got close enough for him to hear me.

he's just a person. like you or me. and he LOVES San Francisco, very much like me. and not at all like you.

and less importantly, but still important: fuck you, im not a hipster. im balding and have no sense of fashion whatsoever. ask my wife, she hates it. if anything im more of a Chevy Chase or Steve Martin.

writing while fucking truly takes skills though!

Not sure who the "fucking hipster blog editor" is supposed to be: Beth or Brock. But I can attest that both are more "fucking" than "hipster."

Hope you now live somewhere where you don't have to see people who you deem to be beneath you. Have a grand ole time tomorrow night at Applebee's, or is it Friday's?

Applause all around for our guest editor. Great job, Beth!

And who knew generic had a blog? How did I not know this? I no longer have to search various comment sections to find his great nuggets of wit and sarcasm.

7x7 mag also just did an interview with Shawn Barber. This had me all confused in the brains, because A) Shawn Barber is super-fantastique, both as an artist and as a person and, B) I wasn't aware that 7x7's readership extended beyond the Marina. Between Shawn and Phillip... kudos to 7x7 for getting all awesome and stuff.

Also - Oscar is pretty much elegance personified.

Do you think Beth would marry me?

The Style Council were a pretty great pop band in the 1980s that Paul Weller formed after he left The Jam, so maybe they're referencing that.

What he meant by it, I've never known.
