Finally, a food festival that we can afford! San Francisco Street Food Festival 2009, which is a benefit for La Cocina, is a free, day-long block party full of micro-entrepreneurs, informal food vendors, and renowned chefs bringing you delicious eats for $8 or less per item.

There will also be a beer and spirits garden, roving street musicians, street art projects, and a hands-on children's play area. Those who don't feel like bothering with cash on Saturday can purchase a food and drink passport for various amounts.

In addition to Saturday's festivities, the Festival is also hosting a few online events, including a silent auction, scavenger hunt, and Street Food photo contest. And be sure to check out the Street Food Festival's sister event, the Eat Real Festival, which will take place in Oakland's Jack London Square August 28 through the 30.

Saturday, August 22, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. // Folsom St, between 25th and 26th, in front of La Cocina // free
