For those of you not aware of the current rumblings in the SF gay community, Prop 8 is so five minutes ago and everyone (especially local drag star Anna Conda) is UP IN ARMS over an incident from July 31 in which an affectionate gay male couple was kicked out of Internos Wine Cafe on Geary Street for macking on each other. Yes, they were kissing, and were promptly booted out by the owner who also allegedly called them perverts and faggots.
An initial kiss-in was staged at Internos on August 1st, and was followed this past weekend by a larger National Kiss-In, which included the event in Union Square and 50 other cities across the country (video above c/o SF Appeal). The national mobilization follows on an incident in the Mormon-owned Main Street Plaza in Salt Lake City in which two men were detained by Latter-Day Saints security forces for kissing in public. Look for more gay PDA in a neighborhood bar near you.

I'm all for kiss ins, but as a frequent patron of Internos I find it very hard to believe that the incident happened as its been described. The folks at Internos are the nicest, most laid back people. I've got to assume that whatever happened has been blown completely out of proportion.
But keep up the rest of the kiss ins... This being the US and a free country and all that.
Love the kiss-in!
But I don't believe that the two were kicked out for being gay, probably for displaying too much affection. No wine bar in SF that serves dainty glasses of rose would kick out the gays. Not in this economy. Not in this town. I applaud Internos management for removing patrons for gross displays of affection.
Well said, Brock. It's a small bar, with just a few places to sit/stand, so I imagine anyone being overly affectionate or doing anything else inappropriate would be asked to leave.
Sidenote - all the owner's friends are really, really good looking... It's worth a visit.
I love this video. When asked "have you ever experienced kissing hate so to speak?"
The gay couple clearly couldn't think of a time when they had, so had to give a really general "oh yeah, usually verbal"
Gays in San Francisco are still not treated 100% equally, but it is a pretty good sign that a gay couple had to struggle to come up with a real incident where they were discriminated against.
I get what you are saying but a lot of gays do not do PDA in public or choose to censure themselves considerably to avoid any problems.
I'm a mid 20's gay guy and have only had one negative comment when my bf and I were at Galveston beach for labor day. A remark was made after I brushed sand of his shoulder. I consider myself pretty thick-skinned when it comes to other people's comments but it did hurt.
