Google Doesn't Like 11th St, DNA Lounge

wtfgoogle.jpg

Apparently, most of 11th Street (between Mission and Bryant Streets) was deleted from Google's Street View a few months ago, which was not fixed in yesterday's update. It also appears in the above graphic that 16th Street, between Folsom and Harrison, is not available either. Here's evidence from 2007 that Street View was in fact once available on 11th Street.

Conspiracy theory: Is Google in cahoots with the Alcoholic Beverage Control's efforts to wipe out the "immoral" DNA Lounge?

This update is all screwy. If you go to the block Tartine is on, that side of the street is night and blurry, and the other side is daytime is crystal clear.

No.1 - This is noteworthy how?

No.2 - Don't you have something better to do than figure out what streets are missing from streetview?

for reals, lay off the tina, chris.

I think it might actually be the definition of noteworthy that entire city streets are missing from a map of the city.

I have noticed that the little area of Howard between 12th and South Van Ness has NEVER been in the street view area. I've been looking for well over a year and it's still not added. What gives? Does Google have a thing against BMW?

Not sure what's up with the 16th St gap, but I know 11th has been all torn up recently due to repaving (I think it just finished). And since the work didn't include Market to Mission (which seems to still be street-viewable), could be that google just didn't want to photograph a bunch of cones.

But they should have left the images that weren't replaced.

An educated quess...there are a number of rehabilitation, support and crisis clinics within those blocks, including a school for mentally disabled youth. I'm sure there's other things I've missed that might cause requests for removal. Just a theory.

I think it's a stretch to say Google is anti-DNA Lounge. They could just as well be anti-Slim's.
