Battle Over Casino Development in Richmond

old-lady-casino.jpg The citizens of Richmond and its City Council are battling over the proposed development of a new casino at Point Molate, a former naval refueling station, by what one activist calls a "rent-a-tribe" who originally were settled over a hundred miles away.

Richmond certainly has its share of problems, what with having lost its primary industrial reason for being (a Ford plant) about fifty years ago, and the city has suffered for jobs ever since. With most of the potential job creation at this casino in construction, and having watched neighboring San Pablo open a casino that has not exactly proven a cash cow to the city just yet, some Richmond residents aren't convinced. The fight's been raging for years, and the anti-casino faction is pleading with City Council to reject the latest environmental impact report.

We say, give the old people some slots to yank. What else have they got to do?

KQED's report can be heard below.

Lots of old folks with pockets full of cash driving into and out of Richmond all day and night.

What could possibly go wrong there?

take out(with pockets full of cash)and that statement still holds true

Could a casino make Richmond any more depressing?

i wrote about point molate/point san pablo on my blog a couple weeks ago. pretty interesting area.

Casino in the hood? Sounds like a fantastic idea!
- Old ladies get knocked off on the way into the casino (where they were doing to lose it anyway). Think of this is euthenasia and if they hoodrats do their job, could lower the group healthcare expenses for the rest of us.
- Provides a steady source of income for the hoodrats. Think: the wildabeest migration feeds all kinds of predators.
- If the wrong grannie gets knocked off, perhaps this festering boil of a city will finally get wiped clean.
- With all the cash flowing into the city, there will be an incentive for security to be provided to the grannies/wildabeests so they don't take their nickels elsewhere.

Promises of jobs for Richmond Residents based on “good faith” are NOT legally binding. The agreement between the Guidiville Tribe and the City of Richmond states that “nothing shall require the Tribe to maintain a workforce with any specified number of Richmond residence” (EIS/EIR, appendix C, section 5.4).

Supporters of the casino development should read the EIR and check out www.coalitiontosavepointmolate.org for more information.
