You see "depressing". I see "entrepreneurial renter's opportunity".

We're saving that bottom right-hand square for you, Barney's.

The Bayside closed? Damn...

I walked down Chestnut St last week and didn't notice any vacancies at all. In fact, for a weekday afternoon, the street was actually bustling with activity. Is there that much difference between the two streets?

20-somethings are suffering? But 30-somethings are weathering the storm?

Yes, that is because people are unemployed.
Is there that much difference between the two streets?
Yes. One is four blocks closer to a body of water, which is significant in real estate terms.
20-somethings are suffering? But 30-somethings are weathering the storm?
Yes. People who are ten years older have more money saved up.

I guess those starry eyed 20-somethings who barged ahead of me to grab that $2200/mo 1 bedroom on Union St felt the pinch. It is now empty. I was wondering how two fresh young 'uns could afford that kind of rent unless they were trust fund babies. Businesses aren't the only kind of real estate quickly going vacant on Union St.

You'll see more unfortunately, California is a Train Wreck, thank your local politicians. Was looking to open a business in SF last year and it was so expensive I opened it in Idaho .... 25 jobs not created ...

There probably wasn't going to be a huge demand for : Sarah Palin for President 2012 in San Francisco. You did well to move operations to Idaho.

Idaho's unemployment has nearly doubled in the last year. Thank your local politicians.

Happy to say...I'm glad you moved your bullshit to Idaho...good luck serving the re-publi-can up there

I guess all of the obnoxious Marina Grrlz had to move back in with Ma & Pa in Fresno.

Aww look, a new troll. I guess spysea got tired of sfgate comments...

Anyhoo, why is it that Union St got hit so hard? Walking around there is disturbing with all the empty retail, especially compared to the rest of the city. I mean, there are some empty places on Valencia, but nothing too bad.

Quick. What do all those former tenants have in common?

It looks about the same as during the dot-com meltdown in the early naughts.

People don't do a whole lot of boutique shopping when they're living off savings and a second unemployment extension check.
