Yesterday's crash, that is.
SFMTA director Nathaniel Ford expressed deep sadness and frustration over yesterday's F-Market Muni crash, which injured 6 people and follows July's Muni train crash in West Portal, saying in a statement, "This accident was intolerable and deeply frustrating, I know that the riding public is concerned about Muni safety, and so am I. Our ongoing work to improve Muni safety is clearly more urgent than ever."
Supervisor Bevan Dufty was confused, and rightfully so. He told KRON 4, "my understanding form being at the scene last night, you're supposed to have space between streetcars."
"This accident was avoidable," said Dufty tells SF Chronicle. "Muni procedures require a minimum of one block spacing between street cars. I can't imagine any excuse. We're past the point of talking about improving safety on Muni. Improvements need to be seen. It's totally unacceptable."

I think I speak for everyone who rides or otherwise comes into contact (like pedestrians and SUVs) with MUNI.
"Duh."
This seemingly growing problem appears to be cockroach syndrome. When you see one, you actually have hundreds; a far more serious problem than appearances reveal.
Here I'm referring to the deeply-rooted and wide-spread problems of the Muni system, its operation and management. As alarming and deadly are these safety issues, they are only the apparent problems.
Then again, I'm not exactly offering any new observations here. But I believe it can't overstated enough.
Agreed, more of a symptom of a more widespread problem.
Well, at least it appears no one was seriously injured .. hopefully the City can settle with the 6 injured folks without having to raise bus fares to $2.25. Ay carumba!
The best decision I've made in years was to move close enough to the Financial District to be able to walk to work. Having never to take MUNI is a MAJOR relief. It would routinely ruin my day as well as my schedule, not to mention the real threat now to life & limb. I opted for CityCarShare for all other needs. I support rapid transit, not MUNI.
How many injuries will it take before Nat Ford (and his $400k salary) get axed? What will it take for the heads of Muni to hold drivers accountable for their actions?
What all MUNI buses and trains do is called "BUS CROWDING"
This is why we wait 30+ minutes for a bus or a train because they all come at the same time.
I hate muni.
If only there were some way we could somehow reward MUNI drivers who operate efficiently while still following the rules and punish the drivers who--Oh, hi, Mr. Union Rep, that's a nice bottle of chloroform you got there, what're you gonna use it--*smother*
If the price is only six injuries to eliminate one SUV, I vote "yes".
@loosecharm - what a boffo dweeb you are. Have you been having fun with a lighter lately?
