According to SFGate, "Two of San Francisco's historic F-line streetcars and a car have crashed, injuring an unknown number of people and causing Muni to suspend train service at the height of the evening commute. KTVU claims that "[t]he crash happened at about 5:45 p.m. when a passenger vehicle somehow became sandwiched end-to-end between two of the historic streetcar that operate on the F-Market line." (Speculation time: Maybe this had something to do with it?)
Bus shuttles are being used to to service riders on Market Street.
This comes just two weeks after the L-Taraval hit another Muni train at West Portal.

How the hell...?
interesting theory brock but i doubt the brakes are electric on these old things. impressive if so.
most people don't even realize that the regular cable cars use manual-ratcheted brakes using white OAK brake pads, bolstered with the use of sand on wet days.
Texting, I bet.
So, this is what brought out three helicopters, creating noise pollution for an hour and a half today?
It seems as though TV news crews take helicopters to cover quinceañeras now; don't they ever walk or drive anymore??
Noise pollution in a major city IS really annoying.
This morning I saw ten fare inspectors congregated three blocks from here.
Ten! Is there a more wasteful and destructive public works program than Muni?
You missed the MUNI driver who was making some lewd remarks to a pedestrian as she walked on Duboce past the N-Judah stop in front of Out of the Closet this afternoon. WTF!? And the woman wasn't some hoochie from his neck of the woods either.
Please clarify "his neck of the woods."
This is just plain impressive. How do you even accomplish this? It, like, takes *effort*.
what are you talking about? the malachi crunch has been around for 30 years!

Looks like the SUV was in the wrong lane and the streetcar smashed into it. The only other option is that the SUV hopped the curb to get around traffic and ate it. Interesting.
The tie goes to the 20 ton streetcar.
It is perfectly legal to be in that lane. It's the only legal way to turn onto SB Noe or EB 16th St.
aha, at first glance I thought they were on Market St
You're right...it is on Market, but this is not an area where the tracks are restricted to MUNI only. The tracks go off to the left and curve onto Noe here, and left turning cars have to do the same. The passenger unload area is between the left turn lane and the two through lanes.
No wonder my brain got all confused as to how an SUV would end up there. I had it in my head that it was east of Van Ness. tks
Somebody goin' to have a lot o' splainin' to do when they get home.
Reason #62 not to drive a Smart car.
Man, that guy got F'd up. (can't believe I'm the first one to say that)
I've been almost run over by those Italian antique things running red lights on Market. I don't think they have very good brakes. Besides, they're not supposed to run all bunched up anyway.
Send 'em to Six Flags where they belong.
I should clarify that is was the streetcar, and not I, running the red light.
Didn't they try to accomplish this same feat on Mythbusters one time?
(Involved 2 semi-trucks and a hatchback smooching together)
looks like a metaphor to me.
