Photos: Bird's Eye View of the Bay Area
Local photog Plug 1 of What I'm Seeing went high in the sky too capture these images of San Francisco and the Bay Area from above. We asked Plug 1 to tell SFist more about his adventure in the sky. Here's what he told us.
After seeing my "Birds Eye View" set on Flickr,, a friend asked if i would enjoy an aerial tour of The Bay with her husband who is a certified pilot. Of course, I said "hells to the yeah!!"" We were originally supposed to fly two weekends ago, but the visibility was poor and we aimed for the first sunny and clear Sunday that came up, which was this past Sunday.
We flew a very small Cessna Plane (1997 172R). The flight was about an hour long -- we left from Livermore, flew north a bit, circled the Golden Gate a couple of times, and headed back to Livermore. so I really only got to see the north end of The City on this trip. It was one of the most challenging shoots I've ever been on, with the small space inside the plane (it was hard to maneuver the camera and long lens), as well as the wind from just outside of my window. We were flying about 200 mph, so I had to hold on to my camera very tightly, it could have easily been sucked from my hands and plopped into the water below.
(...)
In total I took 696 shots. I've processed 9 of them, the rest will trickle in slowly over the coming weeks and months.
Thanks, Plug 1!
