Plug 1 of What I'm Seeing came across this scene at the Whole Foods located a block away from SFist HQ, over on Fourth Street and Harrison. He explains:
According to one of the security guards, the fellow in cuffs attempted to rack a bottle of wine and some take-out dinner from the market just moments before I arrived. As they tackled him to the ground, the bottle of wine broke, drenching his tee-shirt. What made the situation worse was that the fellow was not only full of adrenaline, but deaf. It took some time for the security guards to realize this, but not before completely wearing this guy out. San Francisco's Finest arrived a few minutes later, called an ambulance, and took the suspect away.
Depravity and desperation of the thirsty guy aside, this really is a great shot of security guards taking him down. Here's another one.
And, yes, thank God, our rosés are safe... for now.

Who cut his hair, the guys from Jackass?
Looks more like a pinot to me.
It looks like two different security companies were involved.
definitely two private security companies, as well as one plain clothes guard. and after about 5 minutes, SFPD arrived along with the parmedics.
what was really fucked up was that the guy was deaf, and the bystanders kept telling the security that he was deaf -- their response? "Keep moving, we have this under control!" all of this while they mashed his face literally into the cement. in one of the images you can see his lip was bloodied.
poor form, Whole Foods. even if he was stealing, this all seemed very excessive. maybe he was before i arrived, but it did not appear that this fellow was resisting arrest.
i have an email out to Whole Foods public relations department. if i get a response, i will pass it on to Brock for an update.
Yeah, they probably should have just let him go. Does he get a pass because he is deaf? He should probably know that he should not be shoplifting and that if he gets caught, he probably should not resist. Let's try not to make this something more than it really is.
And you know the Whole Foods security guys just live for moments like these...
No, he doesn't and shouldn't get any kind of pass because he's Deaf. I'm sure members of the Deaf community would be livid if he were to be treated with kid gloves just because he wasn't a hearing person.
Alright, plug1, you've done enough good work for the community and proved your progressive bona fides. You can move to Fairfield now.
Whats fucked up is that this moron stole something what did your e-mail to Wholefood say? that I am curious about... good for whole foods ... aka Whole Paycheck
They have really beefed up security there in the last few weeks.
"poor form, Whole Foods. "
Why is this poor form on the part of Whole Foods? Since private security guards were involved, perhaps it was "poor form, private security companies". As far as I know, Whole Foods does not have a code of conduct that private security guards should follow when apprehending a person that has stolen merchandise from the stores. I could be wrong...
How about: poor form, wine stealing dumbass. Dude got what he deserved.
@Plug1 You are SF's Peter Parker
Why aren't my wrestling matches with shoplifters ever posted on the internet?
Oh well, probably better for all parties involved.

Just search YouTube for "shoplifter fights." A veritable gold mine of hott loss prevention action.
Oh, wait, you said YOUR wrestling matches. Sorry, I read too fast.
Unless the guy in the link I posted is you. If so, STOP RESISTING!!
way to be in the right place, right time Plug1!
What's with Sideburns and Wheaties Box pulling up a set of bleachers?
Too bad stores even have a need to hire security guards ... but when you can get away with murder in San Francisco, I guess stealing a gourmet meal and some pinot noir from Whole Foods seems like a gimme.
Did anyone else notice that the food and the wine (the two things he was attempting to shoplift) both ended up all over the sidewalk?
At least if it's on the sidewalk it won't go to waste.
I know an old friend from high school who markets labels to wine companies.
I'm forwarding this to her with the hopes of seeing this photo times 30 in the aisles of Trader Joe's.
I'm hoping they call it PRUNO.
Is this the homeless guy that usually hangs out either in front of the 7-11 / Del Taco on Market, or over on Montgomery right at Post?
I think of him as "cold yeller", he was always pacing around in a dirty white T, regardless of the weather, and demanding change from passerby.
Whole Foods should make the surveillance tape footage of the beginning of this incident public. Goodness knows, there are cameras everywhere at the Soma WF.
Excessive use of force? One small detail to consider: the shoplifter threw a punch at one of the guards *first.* This is according to a witness who has no reason to lie to defend Whole Foods.
