A little after 11 p.m. last night, two men were shot in the McAllister and Webster area of Alamo Square / Western Addition. A teenage boy, 17-year-old Xavier Gillette, later died at a nearby hospital. The other victim, however, is expected to survive. No arrests have been made. We'll update with more details as we find them.

And despite GUNSHOTS ringing out in a dangerous neighborhood at a relatively early hour
Nobody saw nothin'???
Amaaaazing!!!
Don't snitch y'all - you be keepin' it real.
Enjoy the downward spiral of your youngsters ya fucking spineless morons. Where is your Al Sharpton, Jeese Jackson - oh - they're too busy raising money on Michael Jackson's decrepit dead ass to show up for this boys (thug/punk/drug dealers) funeral.
Assholes.
Was the race of the victim disclosed? Huh. I didn't notice that disclosure.
Some of us know how to work the google, myspace and other online sorts of information gathering. Others use reasonable deduction. 11pm, McAllister & Webster? I managed to rule out Korean Girl Scouts selling cookies pretty quickly. Call me racist.
You can do your own brand of math but mine seems to be pretty accurate.
Allow me to go out on another limb; no arrests will be made and some time in the future, street justice shall be served and nobody will see or hear anything. Once again.
Repeat and rinse.
My limited internet skills led me to this: YOU ARE NOT AS SMART AS YOU THINK YOU ARE.
Further, you miss the point completely. You're not a racist for making the reasonable assumption that the victim of this senseless crime was African-American. However, when you write the following: "Don't snitch y'all - you be keepin' it real. Enjoy the downward spiral of your youngsters ya fucking spineless morons [emphasis added]." I think it's a fair assumption that you view "them" as morons and spineless. Of course, I don't know you and I could be completely and utterly wrong. But based on the limited amount of information you've presented, I don't think my assumption is unfair.
Further, why do you single out Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? Michelle Obama, Cornell West and countless other African-American's won't "show up for this boys [SIC] (thug/punk/drug dealers) funeral." Are you truly this incoherent? What exactly is the point you are trying to make?
Some of us are fed up with the black community accepting black on black violence as acceptable and covering it up. Some of us are fed up with dealers, pimps and pushers bringing down society and poisoning young minds. Some of us are fed up with white, liberal guilt that accomplishes nothing but enable the cycle of violence and poverty.
Go write a long winded missive to Chris Daly or Sophie Maxwell and ask them why they can't fix the problems they were elected to fix.
Hint: They don't give a rats ass.

Ouch, and here I thought today I was the 'jaded' one. Good points though Robin!
Comments like that make me wish I was 'Batman' and there.
Kimmie Gibler did it.
i found a 1998 chronicle article with a photograph of xavier gillette as a six-year-old, staring past the iron bars of boedekker park.
sad.
i'm not sure why my link up there isn't working, but here you go: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?f=/e/a/1998/11/23/NEWS2592.dtl&o=1
Damn, that photo, in light of this news...damn. You look at that kid (assuming it's the same person), and you just don't want to think that in a decade or so, his life will end in moments of panic and probably sheer terror. Thinking back, the difference between a 6-year old and a 17-year old is less than the difference between a 17 and 27-year old. I look at teenagers today from the perspective of a 30-year old and think, "homie, you do not understand just how much of a kid you really are. Just keep your head low for a few more years, make it to my age, and you'll see." Unfortunately, Xavier didn't make it. Godspeed, kid.
Wow, that's really sad.
Everyone thinking about whether to help catch the perp or not ("snitch") should look at this photo.
Amen. I got out of my old 'hood when things got too rough.
What's really strange is that police have a near 24 presence in that area (much to their credit).
