Andrew Bennett and son
Police are still asking the public to come forward with any info on the female suspect, who is in her late 20s with dark hair, driving either a "gray SUV or gray Chrysler PT Cruiser" (with a partial plate of "KAY" and a heart symbol). The vehicle might have front-end damage. Contact Inspector Jim Custer of the Hit and Run Detail, 553-9516, or to call the Confidential Tip Line, 415-575-4444.
Bennett gave Streetsblog an update on his condition, which sounds pretty harrowing (after the jump).
My orthopedic doctor told me today that I will be in a brace for six weeks at a minimum, three months at most and that I'll be unable to do the work of my chosen vocation for many months. There is a possibility that this injury will prevent me from being able to return to my work at all due to its extremely physical demands (being the head rigger or head carpenter on cirque de soleil, Bob Dylan, the Beastie Boys and such is difficult if you can't lift your own body weight) . Time will tell.
Streetsblog mentioned that the press release is the first one the SFPD has issued on a bicyclist injured in a crash in recent memory. This could be thanks to the high profile of the case, and Sgt. Wilfred Williams, a spokesperson for the SFPD, said that any problems between the bicycling community and SFPD is best remedied with better communication.

As one who usually sides against cyclists in all matters, I hope this woman is drawn and quartered when caught.
"one who usually sides against cyclists in all matters"
Quite a policy you have there, bub. Gives your opinion a lot of weight, too.
A partial plate, a description of the car and driver? Lennie Briscoe would have caught this woman already.
And Mike Stone would have guilted her into a weepy confession in Act III.
People who would hit and run are the lowest of the low. I cannot believe there weren't several people who would have seen this on 18th and Valencia.
I think people left, thinking other people had the full license plates.
Would it change your opinion if the 4 year old's tandem extension was a fixie?
yes.
i can't believe it's that hard to track down that plate.
Ok, the title of this entry was misleading. I thought a tandem bike (and its riders) had hit someone and then rode off. What a let-down.
But yeah, hope they get whoever did this.
Thanks SF Appeal for letting us know, "Both were wearing helmets while they were riding." That matters about as much as whether they were wearing jeans or khakis.
Of course I know many of you would like to blame the cyclist and you feel it's not responsible to ride without a helmet. Wearing a helmet has nothing to do with the irresponsible and reckless actions of this woman. I sincerely hope she is brought to justice.
Nonetheless it's irresponsible to ride without a helmet. Fortunately these riders were not doing so.
I do wonder how safe these tandem-trailer-things are in traffic. Not very maneuverable, I would guess. What happens if you need to turn quickly?
So they can't search the license plate database for the query "KAY" and then sort through the resulting matches? How inefficient is the database? I would assume that this would be a relatively simple process, correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm sure they are already in the process. It's not rocket science.
