So, you may recall the kerfuffle about BART workers wanting to strike because their wage increase might get written out of the current contract because of, you know, the CRUMBLING ECONOMY and the massive budget shortfall the transit agency is facing. Anyhow, they missed the June 30th deadline but the unions agreed not to strike after state mediators got involved. Talks have been ongoing, and tonight at midnight is the second deadline. If everything falls apart, the unions are required to give 72 hours notice before striking, so once again, Monday might be a bus-and-ferry kind of day.

72 hours, I spit at that. They can pull a surprise at anytime.
Here's my opinion I posted yesterday:

It wouldn't pay for them to strike without notice in this economic environment (it wouldn't really pay for them to strike, period, in this economic environment, in my opinion). Both sides are playing the public right now (of course, given the economy, BART has the upper hand) and the 72 hour period is a tool the BART employees would use to force the issue.
Both sides need to dial down the militant bullshit and be constructive. Each side is posturing publicly in such a way the other side can't find common ground.
This may be a case where some medical marijuana might be of use. Pass around the pipe, play some tunes, get some tacos and chill the fuck out and come to a sensible agreement for all.
