In an effort to get Californians safe access to affordable mary jane, the above pro-marijuana commercial will air on "several cable news channels and network broadcast affiliates" in LA, Sacramento, and the Bay Area.
Dude.
The ad, however, will not be seen anywhere near KABC-TV in Los Angeles, KGO-TV of San Francisco and KNTV-TV in San Jose. Pft. That is insane. Does this pot spokeswoman -- who represents thousands and thousands of citizens who want to legalize the magic herb for tax and regulatory purposes (not to mention getting seriously fucking baked) -- look like a raging stoner to you? Neither a dream catcher nor a bag of Xplosive Pizza Flavor Blasted Pepperidge Farm Goldfish in sight.

a pro-pot ad in SF would likely be a waste of money
I'd be curious how many pot smokers truly/for reals smokes pot for only medical reasons.
The three or four people I have come across that had cannibus (sp?) cards all freely admitted that medical considerations had nothing to do with them smoking pot.
(And of course they aren't going to use a 'raging stoner' in the commercial, they are trying to convince non-raging stoners)
my semi-legit card is for 100% legitimate medical purposes. see, this godamned camera bag weighs 14 pounds and has put a serious hurting on my lower back.
the only side effect to my "medicine" is that graffiti looks super duper colorful and i tend to eat a lot of Snickers (King Size!) and donuts.
and then once you found out that people were trying to get around the stupid prohibition on pot, what then? its not like they're getting undeserved handicapped placards.
This ad isn't about medical marijuana, it's about legalizing, taxing and regulating marijuana for everyone.
I used to worry about this, too, since the two people I know with medical marijuana cards are perfectly healthy and just like to get stoned.
I don't really care about it anymore since legalization is the only sane thing to do.
Besides, I had a boss once who came to work stoned every day and he was one of my best bosses ever. A lot of places I've worked, they would have been a lot better off if everyone had just come to work baked.
Tax the *uck out of Americas first cash crop. You can’t overdose from it, you should probably smoke it out of a vaporizer (to remove the carcinogens) and it surely is safer than alcohol. I mean I never heard of anyone high dialing, but drunk dialing is a b*tch.
High-dialing: "Uh, I forgot what I was gonna say, but, uh, do you wanna come over and watch some movies?"
so i'm a big pothead and all. but i don't go to the clubs and i'm not paying taxes. i guess besides being a drug user i will now also be a tax evader.
I think this "Let's tax it!" stuff is a bunch of crap. It should be legal - period. Fuck sin taxes.
"Let's tax it" is a euphemism for "let's legalize it for everyone and treat it like alcohol and cigarettes, including taxing it like alcohol and cigarettes." It's just intended to sound more palatable to a general audience.
Yeah, I get the logic but it sounds like offering a compromise when none is needed. Are there really people against pot who will drop that bias if we "tax the hell out of it?" Sounds pre-emptively apologetic. "You better start taxing me because I'm going to be giggling at the movies a lot more."
I love marijuana and I hate the stigma and the fact that it is technically illegal and therefore technically makes me a criminal. So I'd be more than happy to pay taxes if that means that I am no longer breaking a law.
Obviously saying, "Um, this law is totally unethical and unreasonable" has not been effective, since it's still illegal. So whatever it takes to push for legalization is fine by me.
well if it were legal growers could use huge open fields, maybe hire some illegals, and produce much more marijuana than they can now for less money. a lot of the money you spend now on illegal marijuana is basically a risk tax. you're paying for the risk that your dealer takes in dealing marijuana to you, and your dealer pays for the risk that his/her grower takes in growing it. if you take the risk out and are able to grow the stuff more easily and efficiently, costs would likely go down despite the tax. illegal growers (in a legalized world) probably wouldn't even be able to offer marijuana for the price that a larger, more efficient legal grower would.

Listen SFist...we reported on this and posted the story on your site to draw attention to our blog, our cause and push the Marijuana Movement forward. We don't appreciate that you've nixed our shit and made some stupid ass jokes about it!

sfist makes witty remarks (stupid ass jokes) about pretty much everything they blog about. no need to get butthurt about it. if anything, this blog was decidedly pro-marijuana. you're trippin.
speaking of stupid ass jokes, "stuff stoners like."
Welcome to the Internet. You seem to be new here.
eh...fair enough. Plus those "witty remarks" were kinda funny, actually.
So let's just smoke a J together.
Sounds like a plan.
I second this opinion.
Some laws still don't make since... it's still technically legal for your employer to fire you if you fail a piss test despite having a "medical" reason.
Thats the only reason why I don't go out and get one... oh and also because it also gives me mad anxiety which is weird because that is one of the conditions it is prescribed for.
