SF Mime Troup's 'Too Big to Fail'
The 3- or 4-day weekend is upon us. FuncheapSF has a full list of 92 Bay Area July 4th celebrations that keeps growing. Here are a few hand-picked weekend events, in addition to the main fireworks extravaganza, Fourth of July Waterfront Celebration.

ALL WEEKEND

2009 Fillmore Jazz Festival: Featuring three stages with up-and-coming jazz fusion and latin-flavored acts to seasoned crooners belting out jazz standards. Highlights include Lavay Smith (Sat 2p), Marcus Shelby Orchestra (Sat 4p), hip-hop latin jazz of Bayonics (Sun 2p) and Sila & The Afrofunk Experience (Sun 4p). Fillmore Street and Geary Street, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

SF Mime Troupe Opening Day Performance of “Too Big to Fail”
The non-silent musical troupe celebrates their 50th Anniversary with an "odyssey through the twists and turns of banking bureaucracy and international finance." Dolores Park, 1:30 p.m.

SATURDAY

Water Balloon Toss Contest & Hot Dog Relay Races
Frankenart Mart is having a “Elementary School Track and Field Day” for fun-loving adults, featuring frisbee toss, water balloon toss, three-legged races and the Hot Dog Relay, in which anyone may participate. Afterwards, beef and veggie hot dogs will be served. 515 Balboa St, 1 to 5:30 p.m.

Watch Fireworks from WWII Liberty Ship S.S. Jeremiah O’Brien at Fisherman’s Wharf
SFist visited the S.S. Jeremiah O’Brien last year, and it would be a seriously sweet location to watch the fireworks. Pier 45, 7:30 to 9 p.m., $8-15 (includes complimentary hot dog, chips and beverages, plus live patriotic music by “Kids Are Music”).

SUNDAY

Salute to African American Composers, Golden Gate Park
50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Dr, 1 p.m., free.

San Francisco Symphony Live Outdoor Concert, Stern Grove Festival
James Gaffigan conducts the symphony at this annual favorite event, featuring excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Opus 23 with pianist Inon Barnatan, Gershwin’s An American in Paris, and music by Leonard Bernstein from the movie On the Waterfront. The show starts off with an opening performance by “Inouye Jazz” featuring SFS principal trumpet player Mark Inouye, SFS principal bassist Scott Pingel, SFS percussionist Raymond Froehlich, and guitarist Jeff Massanari. 19th Ave & Sloat Blvd, 2 p.m., free.
