Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin announced today that "she is resigning from office at the end of the month, raising speculation that she would focus on a run for the White House in the 2012 race," according to AP.
If you recall, Gov. Palin ran with Sen. John McCain during the 2008 election. She is most famous for having an underage daughter who was with-child, a signature updo hairstyle, and providing Tina Fey with choice material.
After the jump, Anderson Cooper 360 has video of Palin's big announcement.

You don't quit the Gov's job if you're running for prez, that's a dick move. I smell indictment.
or a sex tape!
An indictment would be lovely. I'm figuring it is a scandal of some kind...perhaps the first dude and some of the daughter's friends?
Regardless, I'd love to see the rationale as to how quitting one's job prepares for the presidency!
She lost Alaska's vote a long time ago. She has no chance of being re-elected as governor.
So why NOT quit?
Todd got Levi pregnant.
Anyone watch the video, half way through the camera turned to the crowd and there was like 7 people in the audience. I stated cracking up.
I still had no idea what she was saying.
This will give her time to get that GED before her presidential run.
that's sorta what I was thinking but I imagine her studying the names of countries and their capitals for the next 2 years. She's probably reusing a stack of flash cards that some RNC intern gave her last summer.
i would kill to see a palin sex tape! i definitely think she is a political nightmare...but hooooot!
Wait...did she really say "Pass the ball - FOR VICTORY"!?!?!
Wait...did she really say "Pass the ball - FOR VICTORY"!?!?!
She's probably moving to South Carolina. Someone probably told her there's a possible job opportunity.
Derek Jeter got her preggers and they had Trig.
David Letterman broke the story.
I agree with fizzandpop. As soon as I heard this news, I suspected an indictment was on the way. She's up to her ears in ethics violations allegations, and who quits the governorship in 2009 to focus on a 2012 presidential run? No one with a snowball's chance in hell of winning would do this.
Her lack of experience shows once again. She's just not ready for the national stage no matter how much Bill Kristol wants to do her. She was a mayor of a tiny town in AK a few years ago, then ascended to the Governor's mansion, and has left a trail of ethics violations in her wake. Her rambling speech just sealed the deal that this woman isn't qualified to be in charge of the nuclear football.
but, she's in good company - the lack of experience City Hall has isn't much better...
What a specious argument she gave for quitting! If she were really convinced that she was the most effective Alaska Governor, she would stay until the end, guiding the state with her wisdom and political abilities. She raises up the concept of a "lame duck" Governor and starts getting negative on that concept, and effectively damns all govs who are in their last term who don't quit immediately.
Why didn't she quit on day 1?
Wow, that crowd was HUGE!!! They'll rue the day that they got videotaped standing there and Palin is later indicted by the feds; sort of like the Germans wildly applauding the Führer in some beer hall, then later denying they were there.
The birds squawking in the background gave it a nice touch; too bad they didn't shit on her.
"palin for president" is a nightmare i sincerely hope i don't have to live through.
Palin running for 2012=Obama's second term.
Slam dunk. Guaranteed.
David Axelrod just mixed a margarita, kicked up his feet and went back to work on his book.
For the sake of legal correctness -- Palin's daughter was legal, not underage. Most of the country (and the world) is not as conservative as California in that department.
I have the full text of her speech here:
“I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because uh some…people out there in our nation don’t have maps and uh I believe that are at education like such as in South Africa and the they Iraq everywhere like such as and.. I believe that they should uh our education over here, in the US should help the US or or…or should help South Africa and should help Iraq and the Asian countries so we would be able to build up our future for our children.”
((yeah yeah, I know Olbermann got to it first but it was the first thing I thought of when I saw that))
