While these t-shirts have already been ballyhooed about over the last week on other sites, we feel the need to bring them to your attention. For those of you who take Muni, which is most of you, why not show some love for your favorite lines via one of these nifty t-shirts? Yes. We know. Muni can suck. But there are the occasional moments that (almost) make it worth the trouble. Take, for example, when the J-Church heads down Dolores Park. Such a view! Or, just before it makes that hairpin turn prior to barreling down 18th Street, the view from the 33-Stanyan. Stunning! Better yet, the all too infrequent 38XA- and 38XB-Geary lines, which whisks passengers from Seal Rock to downtown in record time. Glorious! Anyway, you can get a few of these lines printed on a fashion-forward t-shit over at MuniShirts. (Pst, can we get one with "38XA-Geary" on front and "38XB-Geary" on back? Because that? Would be SO clever.) These shirts not your style? Never fear for a challenger appears. Update: MissionMission is still holding a 'Best Muni-related Anecdote Contest' to win a shirt. Check it out.

Haven't those shirts been around for a while? Who's ballyhooing about them? The Internets? I think I saw them down at Art Exchange or somewhere, and they look pretty nasty up close.
Yeah, some store owner at 19th and Irving has been selling similar ones for quite some time, and as chintzy as I thought those looked (though I do like the knockoff "The Sunset" stuff he sells), these look worse.
I kinda like N-Judah Chronicles' shirts:

Thanks for the shout out Joel. Very much appreciated. We also have commuter and regular mugs now too!
I don't know who that guy is, but there's some guy who usually has muni -themed apparel over on Stockton on the same block as the Apple store, and his stuff is really nice, very well made, you should check it out.
The "N Nowhere In Particular" is probably the best looking one of these types of shirts I've seen out here.
All yuppie/hipster lines. Let me know when they lower themselves to make shirts of lines that go out to the neighborhoods.
I'm sure if you asked them nicely, they would make you a 66-Quintara or 89532XBA-Bayview or whatever.
the guy will custom make any line you want, but a large portion of the city is currently served by the 22 / 33/ 71 / 7 /14 / and J.
don't pretend like you ride the 19 Polk.
No, but close. And don't pretend you've been on the 14 past 24th.
yeah, not often out past 24th, i'm more of a SoMa kid, defending the honor of 6th street for the last 15 years.
I've ridden the 14, frequently, to the end of the line at San Jose/Mission just over the line into Daly City. I did this because it was the closest stop to where I lived (thankfully, not itself actually in Daly City). I'm just glad I don't live anywhere even remotely near there anymore.
But seriously, these shirts with the exact same design have been around for years. I believe I saw them in the window of Villains around a year or so ago and Adam Savage was wearing one on Mythbusters last season or so.
They're not even remotely new and, IIRC, they also haven't even added any new lines. These are basically the same lines I saw before. There might even be slightly fewer. I could swear I'd seen a really ugly one for the M before among others.
If you ride those lines (such as the 14) beyond your so-called yuppie/hipster neighborhoods, you'd see that they go to many other neighborhoods as well.
What are "the neighborhoods"?
They're the places where the people who live in the neighborhood live, the people that you see each day.
To put it in terms you might understand, it's like what Alamo is to Danville.
Hopefully they'll donate some of their profits to MUNI, which surely needs it. Afterall, the appeal of their shirts comes from MUNI, not their own design. Really, MUNI should see the opportunity and sell their own t-shirts and products.
Shouldn't they donate it to the NY subway, which also needs the money and from where the design was originally stolen?
Donate it?? don't be ridiculous. Do you understand free enterprise... at all?
Thank you for the constructive comment...jeez.
Alternatively, MUNI could send the shirt-makers a cease-and-desist for infringing on their intellectual property.
loosecharm: nice comment. very constructive. jeez.

MUNI would love to do some apparel sales - I've talked to Judson about this and if MUNI were to hire some company to make some cool T Third apparel (like they did for the launch) for sale to the public, they of course have to jump through hoops and crazy rules imposed by the City on who can or cannot do work for the city. It makes it not worth it.
Which is too bad because whenever I've worn my T Third line shirt from the launch, people always ask "when can I get one" and the response is always "ask your supervisor why they layered so many requirements on city contractors."
Sucks, but it's true.
"ask your supervisor why they layered so many requirements on city contractors."
well, naturally an answer to the implied question here is it was a reaction to corruption in the past.
Profits? That's funny! It's a hobby that feeds itself. Not much more.
Any shirt you want you can get through www.cafePress.com/walnotes. It's just a CafePress shirt rather than an American Apparel shirt.
MissionMission is running a best Muni-related anecdote contest if you're interested. If not, no worries.

I like how none of the pictures let you see what the crap written in the middle is. Street names? A trucker-hat blurb using the word "hella?" Who knows!
@manys Here's a sample image from the site so you can see what is on the 1 California. Each line has something different. It's "locations along the way".

i'd recommend including those pics at the place where the shirts are bought.
The Sexpigeon line: For the discerning hipster.
I want one that reads:
MY CHAUFFEUR-DRIVEN BENTLEY
ANTIBES
Because today I am Elton John in the I'm still Standing video. He's been very quiet about the MJ thing. Thought he'd have changed three words in one of his songs by now and issued a global smash hit for charity single. "Michael my brother...."
I tried to make snarky MUNI shirts and got a Cease and Desist from CafePress.com Maybe I'll try again on Zazzle, where I'm already selling some other shirts
My snarky MUNI symbols on flickr
man, you ever hear of ask.metafilter? you should have tried harder to counter the C&D.
