Photos: State Budget Cut Protest Leads to 17 Arrests

So many protests causing a ruckus at Civic Center / City Hall these days, it's an embarrassment of riches, photo-wise. Today, we present to you Steve Rhodes' choice set of images shot at yesterday's protest against state budget cuts to health care. A total of 17 disability activists were later arrested in Civic Center for blocking traffic.

And, although the California Legislature voted today to reject $11 billion in cuts to state services, Governor Schwarzenegger's wide-sweeping cuts are bound to affect every sector, including home care for the disabled. Expect more rallies and such in the near future.

I think we all should sacrifice a little, even the poor or old or disabled. Nobody should be immune, and if we all spread the suffering of a shitty economy together, we might grow to appreciate how good we have it in this country.

Also: Vigil from 6:00-8:00 tonite at the AoA's Morgan Center (that big pretty building at Post/Mason) for Euna Lee and Laura Ling. Webcast if you can't make it/hate people.

Yeah i was watching from across the street. Pretty nice of the public safety services too...they had an ambulance standing by just in case any of the disabled folks had issues. Also, they clearly did not want to make a scene, so the cops used mainly unmarked cars. Also CHP just stayed back at like the SFPD do their thing.

These people need to motor scoot their asses over to Schwarzenegger's house in Sacramento and protest there. I doubt he gives a shit about protests happening here in San Francisco. More to the point...I'm fairly certain San Francisco politicians agree with these protestors.

My god, those pictures are heart wrenching. Photojournalism at its absolute best. Great job.
