A bumpy road lies ahead for D.A. Kamala Harris, who just kicked off her bid for State Attorney General. It seems the focal point of her campaign, a rehabilitaion program for low-level narcotics offenders confidently titled Back on Track, is coming under fire. According to a recent LA Times report, the District Attorney's program "trained illegal immigrants for jobs they couldn't legally hold." One grim example, the LA Times points out, was an illegal immigrant / cocaine dealer who attacked, mugged, and fractured the skull of onetime resident Amanda Kiefer. After getting arrested, the culprit, Alexander Izaguirre, "avoided prison when he was picked for a jobs program run by San Francisco Dist. Atty. Kamala Harris ...In effect, Harris' office had been allowing Izaguirre and other illegal immigrants to stay out of prison by training them for jobs they cannot legally hold."
Illegal immigrants, more or less, cannot legally be employed. So, as soon as Harris "realized that illegal immigrants were enrolled, she allowed those who were following the rules to finish the program and have their criminal records cleared. It is not the duty of local law enforcement, she said, to enforce federal immigration laws."
Harris went on to tell the Times, "I believe we fixed it ... So moving forward, it is about making sure that no one enters Back on Track if they cannot hold legal employment." She went on to say, "the immigration issue, as it relates to the Izaguirre case, obviously is a huge kind of pimple on the face of this program," later regretting the remark, adding, "I don't mean to trivialize it, nor do I mean to cover it up."

The actual quote from the LA Times story:
"The immigration issue, as it relates to the Izaguirre case, obviously is a huge kind of pimple on the face of this program," Harris acknowledged. An instant later, she regretted the metaphor, saying, "I don't mean to trivialize it, nor do I mean to cover it up."
She does not call Izaguirre a pimple. I know that makes for a funny/snarky closer, but let's have some journalistic integrity please.

I've had some bad pimples before, but none of them ever stole a person, got into an SUV and ran down a woman's before.

Full disclosure: I'm a never-been-paid volunteer for the Harris campaign, because I think she's the best.
And just to clarify, I wasn't asking for the second bit of the quote...I was pointing out the actual subject/object reference in her quote. She calls "the immigration issue" a pimple, not Izaguirre. And it is a horrible metaphor. But not as bad as it would be if she had actually called the criminal a pimple, which is how your recasting of the quote made it sound.

Brock: your assertion that illegal immigrants cannot be legally employed is false. Work authorization is a separate process from legal status. While it is almost next to impossible for an illegal alien to get work authorization, it is not impossible. There are extenuating circumstances which the law allows for. Nonetheless, working while in the country illegally does negatively impact an illegal immigrant's chances of ever becoming legal. Of course, if we had a system that worked properly, illegals wouldn't have had to become illegal in the first place, and I wouldn't have to really point these things out.

The district attorney was explaining how her office handled the case of Alexander Izaguirre, an illegal immigrant from Honduras who was enrolled in the Back on Track program last July when he allegedly robbed a woman of her purse in Pacific Heights, then got into an SUV that drove into the victim.
The woman, Amanda Kiefer, 30, suffered a fractured skull. She said in an interview Monday that she had gotten a good look at Izaguirre and the SUV driver.
"They were both laughing," Kiefer said.
Illegal aliens should not be living in this country let alone working here. Ship each and every one back to their country of origin and send that country the bill.

Also, since we have an incompetent, and hypocritical immigration system, we are also paying to jail people that we are actively recruiting to come over here and work - so we're paying that invoice as well.

Actually, I believe that the mugger had been busted and was in the "Back on Track" program when he mugged Ms. Kiefer. You make it sound like he was placed in "Back on Track" after he mugged this woman.

So do the math... this "innovative" and "successful" program has an 88% FAILURE RATE!

Actually, it sounds like 113 dealers graduated from the program, and had their sentences adjusted accordingly. 99 other dealers started the program, did not complete it, and were sentenced normally.
To get a success rate, we'd need to see recidivism rates of the 113 graduates, compare those with average sentence lengths and recidivism rates of those sentenced normally, etc. etc.
She was 30 when she hooked up with Willie Brown who was 60 and the mayor of SF.
If you need to question her judgment any further than that, then you just don't understand politics, lawyers or the concept of sleeping your way to the top. She's nothing but a gold digging, barely competent whore.
At least Terry Hallinan didn't need to blow any old men to get his job, although he may have had to kiss quite a bit of ass to keep it.

Apparently I should do the math again... 99 divided by a total of 212 equals a 47% failure rate, not an 88% failure rate. Sorry. Just seeing what I wanted to see I guess...
However, no insight (are you listening, Jaxon?) as to how many of these "success" stories went on to re-offend.
And my basic point stands... these are illegal alien criminals - emphasis on CRIMINALS - what is a D.A. doing shielding criminals?
