Local crooners My First Earthquake shot a video to their new single,"Cool in the Cool Way." More or less, it's a song about hipsters. And, appropriately enough, they filmed it in SF's Mission District, a neighborhood brimming with much-maligned hip folks. The video, it seems, is an anti-hipster ode. Or it sympathizes with them. Or it's tongue-in-cheek. Or it's a meta-hipster statement that will make the universe implode upon repeated viewing. (Notions of cool aside, lead songstress Rebecca Bortman is gorgeous. She, like most women and several men, probably looks even more amazing in high heels while throwing back vodka shots at the Razz Room.)
Anyway, it's a smashing video and song. Fun too. Watch MFE drink brown paperbag-wrapped intoxicants in Dolores Park, go through a dizzy fashion montage (always a plus), ride track bikes, and more. Check it out.

she has nice cheek bones.
Perhaps my definition of hipster is too expansive, or perhaps I cannot distinguish between various hipster subcultures, but they already looked a bit hipster-inclined to me.
I like the song and video though. And I wholeheartedly agree with the endorsement of Earl Grey.
this would have been really funny like five years ago
i agree.
It's been done too many times to be interesting.
Moreover, the song is lame. It sounds like every song by "the sounds," it's unimaginative and boring.
very Molly Ringwald (although MFE's probably to young to get that reference). boring? i disagree- fixie bikes are hilarious!
Just saw them Saturday night at Cafe du Nord...and my socks were removed, via rock. Whatever you may think of the cultural relevance of their video, they really know how to play to a live crowd, front few rows were going crazy, show was sold out.
I only wish I had been present for a de-socking. MFE has been performing for a couple of years now and they've been steadily getting better in both performance and song quality. Their last two shows seem to have shown a breakthrough. Plus, they're one of the only local bands that can get people to shake booty and Rebecca's lyrics are both clever and literary - I don't know what more you can ask for :-)
Not to mention, MFE got a new bride and groom and a good part of the wedding party to stay through their entire show. Now that's cool in the cool way.
