Although we have yet to confirm this, Oakland is not just a city full of crime, poverty, and unbearable heat. Oakland is, in fact, a lot of fun. Or so we're told. You see, over in the Uptown District -- "Oakland’s burgeoning downtown arts and entertainment scene" -- the city presented a free arts festival on Thursday. It featured local music, art exhibits, vendors, and tours of the renovated Fox and the Paramount theaters. And, damnit all to heck if it didn't like more fun than any (increasingly oppressive) street festival in San Francisco.

I was told San Francisco has more crime than Oakland but any media coverage will jeopardize the tourist business so that is that. Isn't that interesting. When you think Oakland you associate the word "Oakland" with "crime" but "San Francisco" with "a great city?" They teach you that in memory training: Associate difficult-to-remember with easy-to-remember! They are so clever in City Hall.

Is that the sound of San Francisco losing its coolness because it has become too complicated to try to do anything thanks to Supervisors operating on the belief that the more legislation they enact (crazy, hurtful, or otherwise), the better they're doing their jobs? I think it is....
