Every Pride season, there are a legion of LGBT film fests accompanying the legion of regional Pride fests across the land, now that gay pride isn't just for major metropolitan areas anymore. San Francisco has the largest and best attended Pride parade in the country, and we also have one of the oldest, biggest and most respected gay film fests, Frameline, which opens its 33rd season tonight with Quentin Crisp biopic, An Englishman in New York (pictured).
A few documentary highlights this weekend:
- Forever's Gonna Start Tonight: The Vicki Marlane Story -- about SF Weekly's 2009 pick for Best Drag Queen, Vicki Marlane, who is actually the oldest working transgendered entertainer in the U.S. -- directed by Michelle Lawler, showing at 8PM tomorrow night at the Roxie.
- Little Joe -- about Warhol superstar Joe Dallesandro, he of the bulging crotch shot on The Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers album -- directed by Nicole Haeusser, showing at 4:15 on Saturday at the Castro Theatre.
- The ACT UP Oral History Project, directed by Jim Hubbard, Sarah Schulman, James Wentzy, showing at 2:15 on Sunday at the Roxie.
