SFist Tonight

ART: Greg Gossel will exhibit his new collection of appropriated pop culture imagery ranging from pulp novels, romance comics, political references, and fallen icons of the 20th century. His pieces are large-scale multimedia works involving silkscreen, experimental Xerox copy and transfers, as well as various found billboard scraps and signage. The raw nature of the collection builds upon the surfaces with rich depth, paint, print and collage. Tonight is the opening reception, and the show runs through July 7.

LIT: Charlie Anders hosts another titillating night of the monthly Writers With Drinks series, which combines "erotica with literature, stand-up comedy with science fiction and poetry with essays. Plus mystery, romance, memoir, rants and 'other.'" Tonight's line-up includes Luis Alberto Urrea, Ron MacLean, Rachel McDowell, Vanessa Norton, and David J. Williams. All proceeds benefit Modern Times Bookstore and the Center for Sex and Culture.

COMEDY: The hilarious Joel McHale whose dry wit and delivery have made us loyal weekly watchers of his show, "The Soup," on The E Network, will be performing stand-up at the Masonic Center tonight. We also look forward to checking out McHale's new show, "Community," with Chevy Chase and John Oliver, which debuts on NBC this fall.
