Map: Northern California Unemployment

View Northern CA Unemployment in a larger map

SFGate's 'Scavenger' came up with the above handy Google map, denoting the 20 northern California cities with the highest unemployment rates. While it's not a joyous thing to behold, it is interesting to see where we're at right now in the state. The top spots went to #5: Madera (18.5% unemployment), #4: Salinas (18.7%), #3: Yuba City (19.2%), #2: Ceres (19.2%), and #1: Watsonville (24%).

Some Bay Area cities that made the list include Oakland (13.9%), East Palo Alto (16.8%), and San Pablo (17.6%), coming in at #18, #10 and #8, respectively.

Not so fun now, is it?

The Sacramento Bee has more info on all 20 cities.

Yep the Obama depression has begun.

Man, I hear ya, my tea-baggin' brother. Things were so good before he came into office a few months back and the economy went from florid to the gutter...

Why?...why?....WHY?!?!?!?

i think it's just getting started. i ran an informal poll of my linkedin contacts. 23%. it's pretty much exclusively made up of white collar, college grads too. scary!

i feel safe going on the record that this could be the worst possible time to be a recent college graduate. i just finished a BS and can't even find a minimum wage job right now. AND can't qualify for unemployment. and i certainly know i'm not alone.

don't take this the wrong way sarah but there are some jobs to be had. barrista's at peets on fillmore/washington for example. baby sitting for all the new baby boom parents. both pay a lot more than i made in college or right out of it.
