Bay Area Weekend Events: Festivals Galore

2009_unionstreet.jpg As always, funcheapSF has an exhaustive list of great stuff to do this weekend. For those who feel like staying in or getting out of town, there are street festivals and such all over the place. We've hand-picked just a few.

ALL WEEKEND

Union Street Eco-Urban Festival: The festival showcases 150 arts & crafts booths, 25 gourmet food booths, two stages of live entertainment and bistro style cafes. In keeping with the eco theme, the east entrance of the festival (beginning at Gough) will feature arts and crafts created with recycled and sustainable materials and eco-friendly exhibits. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. // Union Street (Gough to Steiner).

35th Annual Sunnyvale Art and Wine Festival: Featuring five hundred of the country's finest artists and craftspeople, a variety of wines from the Bay Area's finest wine makers, a sampling of some of our local microbreweries, and great food. Live entertainment on stage both days and activities for the kids. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Murphy Street, Downtown Sunnyvale

Art & Wine 2009: Summer Kick-Off Street Fair w/ “Grape Stomp” Competition, Walnut Creek: In a spacious park setting and family-friendly atmosphere, the event features music and entertainment on two stages, hand-made crafts and art from more than 200 artisans, award winning local and regional wines and micro brews, ethnic and traditional festival fare from local restaurants, loads of children’s activities, and two perennial favorites - the Art & Wine Festival Train and the Grape Stomp Competition. There will also be a series of free wine appreciation seminars conducted by local wine experts and local innovators and partners in conservation and sustainability will demonstrate green technology products and services. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Heather Farm Park, N. San Carlos Drive & Ygnacio Valley Road, Walnut Creek.

SATURDAY

Artfest: Bayview will come alive with a great line-up of diverse music, performances, artist booths, art-related vendors and other retailers, info tables from various community groups, art activities for children, a silkscreen demonstration, chalk drawing, and “pedal powered kinetic sculptures” by Cyclecide. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m // Third & Fairfax, Bayview.

Palo Alto Citywide Garage Sale: Palo Alto is trying to reach their goal of zero waste by 2010, and garage sales are the perfect way to recycle and reuse. They have great tips for buyers and maps of each participating quadrant of the city. There's even a treasure hunt for the young explorers. Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

SUNDAY

Sunday Streets Enjoy a car-less extravaganza in the Mission, from around 24th & Harrison to Dolores Park, via 24th and Valencia Streets. The event will be centered around Garfield Square Park, which will feature all sorts of booths and activities. There will be live entertainment at Precita Eyes Cultural Center, rollerskating at 24th and Capp, and bike rentals and booths at the 24th St Bart Station and Mission Playground. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

6th Annual Temescal Street Fair, Oakland: Business owners, residents, and families are invited to enjoy all that Temescal has to offer: cool shops, global eats and hip happenings! Featuring children and family activities and local artists and entertainers. Noon to 6 p.m., Telegraph Avenue from 45th to 51st.
