Another list? Does this mean we can look forward to a more list-generating Chronicle? Because this is a Heart publication we can get behind. Today, one of San Francisco's daily paper of note compiled a rather smurfy top-10 sex scandals of San Francisco list. They include: early '60s "cable car nymphomaniac," who sued Muni for $500,000, after a cable car accident "triggered an insatiable sexual desire that drove her to take 100 lovers; North Beach's Condor nightclub's infamous sex romp cum piano crushing death; a cocaine- and booze-addicted Mayor Gavin Newsom caught fucking his best buddy's wife, Ruby Rippey-Tourk; and, well, the Gettys. We were, of course, surprised to see that Fatty Arbuckle and Virgina Rappe at the St. Francis didn't make the list (the disgraced silent comedy star's "accidental" sex-killing involvement, or lack thereof, in Rappe's death resulted in Hollywood's vile Hays Code), but it's a decent list nevertheless. I'm surprised that the little fiasco back in '98 between my girlfriend from Santa Fe, her twin sister and their Chihuahua did not make the top 10.
It was a sordid ordeal and I've got the photos to prove it.

it was not an "accidental sex killing." He didn't even touch the girl. She died of some neglected kidney disease. She just happened to be there, partying with him and a bunch of other people, when she got sick.
And the court cases were a classic example of a DA run amok (Arbuckle was eventually acquitted).
You are right about the Hays Code, though. The Arbuckle scandal, along with the Mary Miles Minter/William Desmond Taylor scandal, was responsible for the ushering in of the Hays Code.

I thought that the ladies killed by Theodore Durrant constituted a sex scandal. Then I realized there wasn't necessarily any sex, just lots of blood and a couple of bodies.

Men kill their partners with such frightening regularity, this can hardly be labeled a scandal, just a garden variety domestic violence murder.
But how often do you have a software genius/entrepreneur murder his Russian mail order bride, then deny the whole thing in spite of a mountain of evidence?
I didn't get laid once from Feb 98 until August 98. That was a f**king scandal.
