UPDATE, Old Meme -- Help Find Beloved Labs a Home Together

cococookie.jpg Update: Ha, it looks like we've been had, kind of -- it is a true story though. According to Snopes, this story actually happened down in LA in February, and the dogs did indeed find a home together. So, at least there was a happy ending. Thanks to drybones for clearing it up for us.

A friend of SFist sent this sad story to us earlier, and SFist commenter Rahir added it to SFist's contribute page.

In these tough times, many of us are at risk of losing our jobs and homes, like Katherine, owner of the two beautiful labs, Coco and Cookie, pictured at left.

After losing her job, Katherine and her children have been forced to move to a new home in two weeks, which doesn't accept pets, and she's trying desperately to find Coco and Cookie a home together. The lab rescue told Katherine they would likely be separated, which would break the doggie pals' hearts.

If you have the space in your home for these two beauties, or know someone else who does, contact Katherine at kjmorris74 [at] yahoo [dot] com. Ideally she's looking for someone local, so she and her family can still visit them.

Here's what Katherine had to say about Coco and Cookie:

Recently I tried to take Coco out in my car alone and she TOTALLY refused to even get into the car without Cookie.....!!!! She absolutely pulled back on her haunches until Cookie was by her side. Both doggies are in great health, have been spayed and have ID chips implanted under the skin.

Cookie turned 3 December 10th and Coco will be 3 April 1st. Cookie is my mellow-yellow, and just loves her tummy rubbed. Coco is adorably funny and lives for her "ball." She also loves the water..... Cookie loves lots of attention. Both doggies are loyal and love to walk. They have been raised with my 3 kids running around all over the place, and have survived Sammy's constant hugging and love of 'dress-up', so they are fantastic family dogs. This is by far one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, but under the circumstances I have no choice.

I would take them if I weren't already practically known as the crazy dog lady of north beach.

I'm glad I don't have three young children, because I'd go live in my car before I gave up my dogs.

frankly, I'd hand the kids off before I gave up my dogs (but I have a teenager, so I would be justified).

This is heart breaking. I just posted this article on Facebook and am sending it out to my friends.

Thank you for looking that up.

Ack--my coworkers and I have been had! So sorry for reposting this... But good detective work, drybones!

No worries! I would have believed it too, had it not already popped up on mailing lists at my company a few times.

Ah, Leanne, never change. You're an innocent amongst these cynical beasts.
