I hope they get arrested.

Is it against the law to tie up your dog?

Actually yes, it is. California law prohibits tethering of dogs. It's also prohibited by the laws of "don't be a goddamn hillbilly."

Just to clarify, the law allows an owner to tether an animal for up to but no longer than three hours.

You're right. But it should be half hour tops.

um, stupid question maybe, but why is tethering so bad? is it the assumption of neglect?

it seems like if this was a backyard lawn in Hercules nobody would care.

Because he can't move around on his own. Look how short that leash is. If he has to "do his business" he'll practically have to lay in it afterwards. The dog has no water bowl that he can reach, etc., etc.

So yeah, it's a strong presumption of neglect. I hope the photog did a little something more than just snap a shot and walk away (like report to the spca, for example).

Oh hey, just being annoying with the facts. I disagree with tethering completely. Actually, I think it's wrong to own animals at all, but I keep that insane opinion to myself mostly.

does the law also mention that the pup needs a thousand belly kisses? because it looks like he has a belly kissing deficiency.

Ohes. If only this mheild person told us where this pups was? I would leave work right now and go give him all the belly kisses he needed.

'Course, I'd get fired.

Oh, what a cute pups. Is definitely a good boy.

And this is different than someone tying up a dog to a tree or parking meter, how??

This dog appears to be tied to someone's home, indicating that the owner has not just dashed into a coffee shop to grab a cup and run back out.

You dont know that. The owner could have just dodged right out of the frame of your allowable view of this photograph and into a coffee shop.

As acknowledged by the word "appears."

Just like they "appear" to need to be arrested? Or is that you "appear" to hope they get arrested?

They aren't leaving the dog like that are they? I just assumed that the owner went into a store or something.

who knows? its just a picture.
(but get your pitchfork ready just in case)

It's a graffiti watchdog.

Actually, that's Petey from the Little Rascals. He's on a timeout as his punishment for mugging that guy on Capp & 24th.

Can we get a roll of paper towel in aisle 9 for all the bleeding hearts? Jesus, you people are ready to crucify anyone for the potential appearance of possible animal abuse.

Try this on for size. The dog was barking at the front door because each morning he/she gets to go outside and sit in the sunshine for a few hours while the owner tidys the house and vacuums the rugs. And absent of any piles of dog feces or wet stains on the concrete, we can also ASSUME - that's what we're doing right? - that the pup in question was properly walked before being allowed to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine - as happy pups are wont to do.

Here, go be enraged for a reason:

You obviously hate animals. Go ahead, admit it - you'd like to beat that dog, wouldn't you? That's the first thing you thought, right? "I would like to beat that dog."

Absolutely. I regularly beat tethered animals, which these days amounts to walking in and out of the various offices around the Embarcadero Center and slapping corporate whores on the back of the head.

I've owned three dogs and even ponied up 5 grand to have one of their knees replaced - actually both of them - when they blew out. One of the dogs was petrified of the vacuum noise and would scratch at the door to be let out whenever the big bad vacuum came out of the closet.

Therefore, dog outside in sunshine seems happy to me.

Who tidies the house and vacuums the rugs every morning? The owner must have a lot of time on their hands.

Vacuuming your rugs every day isn't normal, but on meth it is.

Reeeeelax everyone. Brock, maybe you should have made it clearer to your readers that this is a snap shot and not live streaming video of this dog.

//I mean... I've been watching him just sit there for hours and he looks so unhappy. No one has come outside to give him food or water. And come to think of it, he's not moving any more. I hope he's OK.

Now there's some crazy person and a homeless guy in a wheelchair. Dammit people, take care of your washed up celebrities in this city!

Oh noes, and I was hoping that this would make a run at Week Around Ists. Show those people in those other cities what's important to us -- dogs.

Can we have a weekly game called "What's going on here?" so I can laugh at all the funny?
