How Weird Street Fair Photos

On Sunday, the annual How Weird Street Fair took place on Howard Street (get it?), with many residents showing up for the organized fun festivities wearing very bright colors. Described as a way to "rewire our way of thinking towards peace, by rebooting the motherboard," the zany fair was filled with Burners, furries, transgressive types, self-described weirdos, and other people who had bad experiences with "organized religion" and/or mean parents who believed in some sort of structure.

Enjoy.

You know, we keep having these organized fun fairs for irritating people and yet continue to miss these perfect opportunities to have these people rounded up, interned, gassed, etc.

Dore Alley pix have left me so desensitized, I'm not sure I even see anything here.

http://www.justin.tv/clip/156a2be44e2bb46c

took that clip from my office window. I was trying to work and then this crap happens. Sigh.

some of us have jobs and have to work downtown on the weekend. It's bullshit that I can't get anything done because of this stupid bass.

Riiiight.

But apparently you had enough time to put together a 15 minute video and another 10 minute video of said party and post to the web.

I wouldn’t worry about not getting any work done. At the rate our economy is nose diving in its death spiral all of San Francisco will be laid off by the end of the week.

there was zero effort on my part. Open up my netbook, hit stream and then click, "make clip"

I tried to work on my office PC while the recording was happening. Don't over complicate basic technical shit by adding unnecessary steps.

I'm working on the weekend so I don't get canned so while all of the burners are out dancing and smoking pot, I'm trying to save my ass from getting laid off.

IIf you’re really serious about not wanting to be canned my best piece of advice would be to tone down your message board presence.

Nothing quite screams “goofing off at work” as much as the guy who is on every single message board or every single site pitching in his two cents.

I subscribe to 29 RSS feeds and I comment on an average of 5 posts per day. That's it.

I work 3 jobs actually and all of them require that I am online constantly. I was simply trying to share a clip because it was relevant to the post and now i'm defending my work ethic? Screw off.

“I was simply trying to share a clip because it was relevant to the post and now i'm defending my work ethic? Screw off.”

No.

You were bitching and complaining about how this block party on a SUNDAY was bullshit and inhibiting you from doing your job.

Go back and reread your original post. It’s there for the world to see.

And I called Bullshit on You.

And, once again, you are able to respond. In a heartbeat.

Good for you, Adam Jackson.

I’m sure the next time you’re under the gun and under a deadline you will respond with the same passion. I would expect nothing less from you.

It appears that you and I carry the same crown for keeping the conversation going. I'm not trying to have the last word but I do feel that you're coming back again and again to ensure you get yours in.

Tracking comments is easy. Aside from that I have search terms setup for adam+jackson, "adam jackson" and adamjackson that email me twice a day with links. Every time you reply I get a message so to be clear, I haven't put any thought into coming back and arguing with you.

you will not get fired for reading/commenting on sfist while at work; in fact, you will get showered with raises, promotions, and benefits if you read/comment on sfist while at work. this is a fact.

you're like my old douchey roommate that takes 5pm naps and then expected everyone to be quiet for him. You're working on a weekend man!

You're a special little snowflake.

I saw a group of people wearing "odd clothing" (or they were dressed for Rocky Horror) on the bus and one group was asking the other if they could have some of their booze.
"Sure, but let's wait until we get off of the bus. I don't want to get thrown off muni."
Totally transgressive behavior.

How dare they be polite and respect those around them! What will you complain about now? They completely ignored your right to bitch about them!

we're so free to be ourselves! those squares who don't live in san francisco must be so jealous!

No no. Actually not. Just reminded of the annoying things about SF that I don't miss at all. Douchey people wearing glitter in the sun is WAY up there.

If you randomly split all of these people up and sent 20 of them to each neighborhood, it would be just like any other day in paradise.

Yes, even the pink gorilla. He/she goes directly to the Haight to stand guard at the bus stop in front of Hobson's.

What a beautiful day. Long live the How Weird Street Faire - 10 more years! Thanks to all the organizers and all the DJ crews for putting on the stages. Your hard work is what makes San Francisco such a great place to live.

SFist: home of the grumps

I think it is a fun event, and I hope they made enough $$$ to make it an easy choice to do it again for an in the same spot. I kicked in my $10 donation at the 'door' even though I was just passing through to get over to Chow on Castro via Muni metro for a semi-early dinner.

I consider this the pre-Bay to Breakers party in some respects. Rincon Hill gets the tortilla toss and all the lovely Bay to Breakers the following week (this Sunday!)

Man .. I need an editor. Chow on Church was the destination .... and hope they hold their How Weird event at 2nd and Howard again next year.

Amen, Brother.

This is a super-fun, homegrown, beautiful little indigenous block party that I’m really going to miss once the city is done waging their Death Of Fun campaign.

I think BYOBW is toast. I love that event but I’ll be really surprised if they can cough up the 10 grand “pay to play” license fee for 2010. If anyone really wanted to put all these flash mobs, twitter, and self-indulgent local SF web sites to good use, I think they would figure out a way to save events like these.

Or maybe not.

I was at this fair, and everyone was there just enjoying life, having a blast, and partying it out and feeling free.

So what?

Anyone who's against this are just stuck in their lives, don't know how to have fun, and have no friends.

Really, just drive up to Oregon and check out a hippie commune. That'll teach you about life.
