Although it's known more for pretty computers and applications celebrating infanticide than Internet know-how, Apple is rumored to snatch up Twitter, according to Valleywag. While the SF-based company turned down a $500 million offer in cash and stock from Facebook, whose most recent makeover was a disastrous aim at the Twitter set, Apple allegedly plans on ponying up $700 million for the micro-blogging site. According to Valleywag, "A source familiar with the thinking of Twitter's board says the company would be hard-pressed to refuse an all-cash offer in the range of $700 million. (Is Twitter really worth that? Since it's business is nothing but a fantasy at this point, any valuation, high or low, is a matter of make-believe.)"

A Twitter post! Didn't see this one coming!
I'll give you my non insider opinion: No.
As a general rule if you own a company that produces no revenue and has no plans to produce any revenue and its product is really not that useful and someone offers you $700 Million in cash, Sell! Just my $0.02.
Agreed. It's even insane they turned down $500 mill. That's half a BILLION dollars people!
Boy, they must have Steve on some pretty hard stuff.
Why would Apple want Twitter? No doubt they can afford it with that huge hoard of cash they have on hand, but I find it highly unlikely. On the other hand, they do feel Twitter is a triumph of humanity!

Unsubstantiated Apple rumors via Valleywag? Seriously, do we need this here?
I would pay 700 million just to shut it down so I didn't have to hear about Twitter. Ever. Again.
Google or Yahoo might do something dumb like that, but Apple seem smarter than that.
But were it not for twitter, I would never have known that the SF Weekly is looking for a local blogger: RT @LAWeekly: O @SF_Weekly is looking for a local tech blogger/social media enthusiast. Know someone?Email janine.kahn@sfweekly.com which somehow in my mind stiches this post with the Onion closing up shop post.
It's only a matter of fantasy if you don't trouble yourself beyond the already-outdated idea that it's a "micro-blogging website."
If that's all you see, that's all you see.
Hey - what a shocker - a Valleywag story proven false:

Stop with the Valleywag links unless the stories are confirmed elsewhere, in which case, link to the elsewhere.
