Eliana Lopez and Ross Mirkarimi are the parents of a baby boy today -- the SF Supervisor's first bundle of fun. A reader (presumably Mirkarimi himself) tips us off, saying, "Eliana Lopez and Ross Mirkarimi are the proud parents of a baby boy. The baby weighed in at 8lbs, 14oz. Our son was born at home, natural childbirth. Eliana was in labor all night/day. She is a goddess! She and baby are resting, while Pappa tries to clean and cook."
Yes, she IS a goddess. She delivered a 9-pound boy via natural childbirth at home. Ow. So: we expect you to buy her a FANTASTIC push present, Ross. We're not kidding. Here you go.
SF Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi rules District 5, which encompasses Hayes Valley, Western Addition (Fillmore), Japantown, Lower Pacific Heights, Lower Haight/Haight-Ashbury, North of the Panhandle, Cole Valley, and the Inner Sunset neighborhoods. Mirkarimi lives on Webster Street in the Western Addition. He most recently shaved off his goatee to wide acclaim.
Congratulations, Ross and Eliana!

I guess you could say that the baby is a product of "planned parenthood". You know, because he's the Planing Commissioner or something. That's the best I could do. From here to Maternity and all that.
family photo idea: Ross with no goatee embracing momma and baby who do have goatees. GO!
Ouch! Almost 9lbs with no drugs. Now that's one tough mama!
Congrats Ross!!
Natural childbirth = masochism.
Whoa, natural childbirth in this heat? Hope they had the A/C on full blast.
I knew some dot com millionaire artisan baker triathletes once who had an at-home birth. While she was in the backroom, pooping out the baby in a hot tub, all their friends and family were in the front room imbibing champers and scarfing canapes. Later, pops brought out the baby, fresh from the womb and umbilical cord trailing, to much acclaim. The next day they had a brunch, during which they dumped the baby's placenta into a hole in the ground in their garden and planted a pinyon pine on top. I imagine Dreamy's kid was welcomed into the world in much the same manner.
That's real nice and all, another dependent for SF's bloated public servant benefits program while the rest of us struggle to get by, but let's all take a moment and acknowledge the fact that no one on the Board of Supervisors "rules" any thing or anyone: They are in office, temporarily, to be representatives of the people, and are accountable and answerable to us, period. Granted, it seems trivial to bring it up in this case, and I hate to spoil your puff piece, but this kind of demagoguery has become far too prevalent of late, and is not healthy to a democratic way of life.

Ed, take adeep breath and harness your chi. We all know the only thing Ross rules is the vest aisle in the men's department at Kohl's.
Don't be so literal.
Apologies! Was attempting to discuss politics, but fashion will do. Yes, he's apparently very dapper. No Ed Jew, though.
Congrats, Ross!
I'm thrilled to hear they chose to have a homebirth! Congrats to the new family.
please tell me this baby was born on 4/20.
