The obvious answer is that the city is hurting for money, and will ticket anything they possibly can.

"I'm sick and tired of all this NIMBY bullshit. Everyone knows exactly what they are getting themselves into when they live in SF, and those that expect otherwise shouldn't have moved here in the first place."
That pretty much sums it up. If you can't deal with a little crazyness every now and then feel free to move to the suburbs or San Jose where you can tend to your neat little lawn and never be disturbed. Extra points for glowering at kids playing in the street. You own a home here? How special of you, guess what you still share the city with 750k other people, get over yourself.

That being said, pick up after your shit. I learned this in grade school, but apparently many adults haven't.

I remember the first autumn I lived in my apartment, I was woken up one Sunday by a crazy, inscrutable racket. At first annoyed, I looked out my window and realized to my delight that it was Berkeley’s annual parade going by my building. I didn’t glower or call the city demanding it be rerouted, and now I make sure my window is open the night before so I get woken up in time to watch.

Newsflash: You live in a dense, vibrant, fun-loving city. Part of the price of admission for that is accepting occasional minor inconveniences due to both the inevitable problems as well as the convivial frivolity of an urban setting. Be glad this is a case of the latter, dispense with your curmudgeonly hang ups, and try to have a good time—or at least have more tolerance for everyone else’s.

Thank you! I own a home in San Francisco that has a Farmer's Market in front of it every Sunday, located a block away from B2B every year, and various other street fairs etc throughout the year. I also enjoy going to other street fairs and carnivals throughout the year in SF neighborhoods. Seriously people need to chill out. Once a year this event happens, deal with it.

My house happens to be right at one end of the Folsom Street Fair. I also live within striking distance of the "Up Your Alley" fair on Dore Alley. If I can deal with hairy naked bears up and down my street twice a year, the residents of this neighborhood can easily deal with a fun event that actually welcomes family participation. I'm sick and tired of all this NIMBY bullshit. Everyone knows exactly what they are getting themselves into when they live in SF, and those that expect otherwise shouldn't have moved here in the first place.

holding a street appreciation bbq, where i assume they didn't ask any locals if this event would bother them. And who cares, they were going to do this no matter what, right? Do you really think they "repaired" the street for anyone other than themselves?

I'm all for fun, but we have the longest man made park in the country that goes virtually unused. Find a way to use it.

Has San Francisco become the west coast campus for Bob Jones University?!?
Odd how SFPD is so quick to be the arbiters of what the citizens who pay their salaries can do to while away the time as the world goes to hell around them, but said gendarmes refuse to enforce laws that will protect citizenry from harm and death, such as enforcing the cellphone laws.
I was standing there when they scotched the soapbox derby.

Well, do you own a home? Would you like this crowd outside your house all day on Easter Sunday? This is what parks were designed for; we live in a big, noisy city as it is. Have some concern for the community you hope to invade.

I live around the corner and think this event is fantastic. The organizers held a "vermont street appreciation" bbq last sunday, they patched the street, they flyered the neighbors, they're bringing garbage bags and cans and portolets--in short, being incredibly responsible. Did they get a permit? No. It's a free event, there's no sponsors, no money, no admission. There _has_ to be a way for people to get together and have good clean family friendly fun in this city without someone having to spend $10,000 on permits, insurance, etc etc. Things like this are what make SF great, I hope Newsom works it out.

As a thirty something that doesn't give a hoot about American Apparel and lives no where near the Mission, yet has participated in BYOBW, I think this is ridiculous.

At some of these types of events you'll always have a few knuckleheads. That is the nature of any event of sufficient size. That is no excuse to make the city a fun-free zone.

I live in the Richmond, and while I hate the inconvenience of the street closings for B2B, and hope people become better looking after themselves, I love that the event exist, and have been known to give some of our less than sober citizens a ride back from the beach somewhere they can catch a bus or cab.

The fun killing is getting out of control. No beer gardens at festivals, B2B, BYOBW. Maybe someone needs to lob a few laughing gas canisters into City Hall.

in fact a lot (well some anyway) of the linked to tweets were people saying precisely that. Too much booze and trash.

It seems like the City is having a hard time working out where your fun ends and other people's grumpiness begins. Hopefully we'll all work it out before we can't have any fun any more.

It's been going on for some time. Maybe you don't go to dance clubs, though. That's where the bulk of their meddlesome ways have been focussed the past 10-15 years. Looks like now that they've got all-nighters effectively banned within the city, they're a little bored. Too bad for the SCA hippies, maybe they should have got involved with the Entertainment Commission earlier.

See all those structures along Vermont street? They're called homes. People live there and probably don't want all the 20 somethings invading their hood.

Ahh Irony...Probably the same hipsters who wouldn't let American Apparel in their hood, want to barge in on another hood for their own reasons.
