Americans drank 467 million gallons of California wine the past year, up 2% from the previous fiscal year, despite the deepening recession/depression gripping our great, drunk nation. Retail value of CA bottles was down from 2007, as were restaurant sales, reflecting budget concerns. But rest assured that inexpensive wine-swilling remains in the budgets of many Americans. Incidentally, sales of CA wines to foreign countries are up 8%.
