The New York Times Discovers Dogpatch

Dogpatch-Saloon-flickr.jpg In the NYT Travel section over the weekend, Vanessa Gregory wrote a piece about the revival (read: gentrification?) of Dogpatch thanks to the T-Third Street line and the presence of upscale establishments like Serpentine and Yield Wine Bar. The piece quotes a local business owner as saying that the neighborhood has "stayed kind of gritty" despite the influx of loft developments and yuppie watering holes.

As evidence, there is Piccino Coffee Bar where "truck drivers, architects and Hells Angels" all intermingle, and the Dogpatch Saloon, which has remained mostly unchanged in 100 years (even during Prohibition when it posed as a "candy store").

We'd agree that it's still gritty, but we still can't afford to live there, so we kind of think this is splitting hairs? Anyway, go Dogpatch! You made the New York Times!
