If activists, like Michael Petrelis and other Castro frequenters, really wanted to focus attention on a part of the world where gays are suffering, maybe they could take a look at Iraq. Because this is, for lack of a better word, depressing. It's unreal but all too real. Iraqi gays will be "executed in batches" this week, convicted of the crime of being queer. UK Gay News has the details.
More than 100 prisoners in Iraq are facing execution - and many of them are believed to have been convicted of the 'crime' of being gay, the UK-based Iraqi-LGBT group revealed this afternoon.According to Ali Hili of Iraqi-LGBT, the Iraqi authorities plan to start executing them in batches of 20 from this week. There is, said Mr. Hili, at least one member of Iraqi-LGBT who are among those to be put to death.
And the London-based group, which believes that a total of 128 executions are imminent, is calling on the UK Government, international human rights groups and the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva to intervene "with due speed" to prevent "this tragic miscarriage of justice" from going ahead.
...Most are likely to have been sentenced to death by the Central Criminal Court of Iraq (CCCI), whose proceedings consistently fall short of international standards for fair trial, Mr. Hili said.

In related news, your homosexual elders want you to boycott Red Stripe. Or something like that.

Week Around the Ists

Michael Petrelis has posted things about gays being executed in Iran & I'm sure he will say something about this, when he learns of it.
Keep this in mind the next time there’s some Israel bashing block party in the near future.
If you’re gay, you live and work in Israel.
If you’re gay and you live in Hamas run state, expect to be gathered up an executed just like in Iran.
Put that in your “We are Oscar Grant” crack pipe and smoke it.
That is what is called a false dichotomy. You can be both critical of Israeli behavior and Iraqi/Arab/Muslim behavior. The moral value of the actions of one does not make automatically make the moral value of the other its opposite.
I hear you fugaziaboutit! I wonder if all those Free Palestine people would be all for freeing Palestine if they knew what kinda "rights" came along with that "freedom"? Kinda like Code Pink showing up an NRA rally...
I'm sure our troops who are there to preserve justice will deal with the situation.
damn, thats mean.
A great resource for international news about gay human rights struggle around the world including Eastern Europe, Iraq and Iran is David Ireland's Blog: http://direland.typepad.com/
Great, American tax dollars indirectly (?) supporting human rights abuses.
Yes. I'm shocked, shocked, to hear of American tax dollars supporting such things.
For realz.
////Michael Petrelis has posted things about gays being executed in Iran & I'm sure he will say something about this, when he learns of it.///uh, it's Iraq, not Iran and if MPetrelis doesn't already know how life sucks for gays and lesbians in islamic nations then he is not a very good activist.
So much for the religion of peace Bull SH**! The armpit of the world!
stockton is much worse.

I am curious... Is there any confirmation of this from an actual news source? I am more inclined to believe the UK Gay Press than Pam's House Blend, which is notoriously sensationalistic. I hope this story is not true, though it is certainly possible. But I have seen nothing in the mainstream media, which I find odd...
I am incredulous that there are people in SanFran who are apparently unaware of the plight of homosexuals in the Islamic nations. It is no secret and has been happening for decades.
Unbelievable. What is really sickening is that some poster on the sfgate website claimed that Iraqi gays are doing much better now than before the American invasion in 2003 (this poster claimed the difference was between night and day for gay Iraqis). This poster's sole defense of the Iraqi debacle now is because the liberation of gay people was worth it. And to read this. Makes me sick about the whole thing.
Interesting. Now SfGate is quoting SFist for news. The whole world done gone crazy.
This is horrendous. The world community must stop this. Why are we pissing away any more lives and billions of dollars in this or any country that supports this Dark Ages behavior? Obama must stop this and then get our troops out.
