the "sad" is probably referring both to the Chronicle for posting such a list and also the list itself, which is kind of arbitrary. the chronicle, if you haven't noticed, has been in a downward spiral for a while. features like this exemplify the state of desperation they're in - instead of doing real news reporting they're making stupid lists that they think people might be interested in. not only that, but they're posting this really random list on their FRONT page. it's pretty sad.

The MSM do this a lot to try to seem relevant. Think of KPIX' "Eye On Blogs" which is similarly redundant. The Washington Post does it right: blogs by their actual reporters, on items of actual news relevance.
