but Brock, swimming at 4:00 AM in socal you have water that is MAYBE in the 60 degree range plus little swell and not too many rocks. Davenport is much much different. Bad Call

While on the cross country team in high school, I too used to swim in the ocean around that time. It's not that uncommon. Very refreshing, in fact.
